Are we but Genitalia Alone?
Are we but Genitalia Alone
By Tony DeLorger © 2012
What gives flight to a soul,
are the little things in life,
the sincerity of a caring heart,
the tender touch of love,
and accepting wrongdoing
What many seek as defining experience
are the pleasures of the flesh,
the reward of material gain,
and the stroking of egos...
shallow and fruitless meanings.
That moment of orgasm, that ecstasy,
is life’s assurance that we propagate,
and not our defining reality,
yet in what have we invested,
in every aspect of modern culture.
Surely we are capable of much more
than an act sewn into all life,
the process of which hardly defines any species.
Yet we are driven by the base urges of animals,
ignoring the real gifts in life,
stirring souls to aspire and be immersed in love,
and in doing so experience this miraculous endowment of living.
Kindness, compassion and understanding,
give rise to pleasures of an open soul,
a being defined by the glory of existence,
and the potential of experience
that seeks selfless fulfilment,
and the expressions of an enlightened mind.
Surely we are more.
