As Time Marches On

Time flies before you even begin to sigh

with wings it goes by

like birds that rush to the skies

it was just yesterday

when you were swinging

trying to catch the clouds

so very up high

with each back and forth movement

it seems that you grew

soon came tomorrow

and childhood was far behind

the days of youth were fleeting

but the memories still brightly shine

we have no control over the future

but we can keep reaching for our dreams

as time keeps marching on

keeping time to its own parade

the hours and the minutes

chasing each other round the clock face

listen to the music of the ticking clock

like a heartbeat that never stops

if we hold fast to all that we treasure

in friends and family take pleasure

even if we cannot pin down time

it has a special rhythm and rhyme

so let it keep marching on

we can keep up with the beat

living and loving and giving

can’t pin down time

but it leaves us

with many golden memories

as soon as one day has gone

another one begins

no pause, no chance to reflect

time marches to its own tune

Time certainly has a way of getting away from us. It marches on without us realizing how much time and how many years have gone by.
