Asleep In The Tree

by John Hansen © 2013

The weather's so fair

And the wind's in your hair

But you have to take care

To make sure you lie square.

Hear the birds sing a song

In the bough that seems strong,

But the trunk is so long

That to fall would be wrong.

In a dream this I see,

I'm sure it can't be.

That young boy is me,

Asleep in the tree.

beautiful words and pictures

There is a lot of heart and love behind this.

Sleeping in a tree brings one closer to nature and closer to the spiritual world. It quiets your mind.

Thank you

Here is a poem that stands still in time. I always pictured myself sleeping in a tree. I came close to achieving my dream while living in Hawaii. The sweet boy in the photo touched my heart.

I have a spiritual connection to trees. I rarely miss a day without hugging one (I live in a forest.)

The Rumi quote touches the strings of my heart.

So do you. Votes up and sharing across. Sweet peace to you Jodah ~ Audrey

Thank you for that wonderful comment Audrey. I am glad you found this poem special and can relate to it. My aim is always to touch at least some of my readers with everything I write. I too am a tree lover, living in rural Australia on a 40 acre property, 2/3 still natural forest.

Sweet peace back at you, and thanks for voting up and sharing.

Love the main pic you chose here and even more so the subject matter. Trees were a big part of my life growing up.. nearly my favorite past time. I loved to climb trees. Still do. I hope I never grow up! :)

I had to laugh too, because I quite often would fall asleep in a tree. There was an old tree at a park that was big and beautiful with long sweeping branches. It was a magnolia and until I moved about a year ago, it was a favorite hang out of mine. I would climb up in the big branches, high enough no one could see me, so I could be simply anonymous. I would read for hours, think, ponder... mostly just take in the sounds and sights around me. So much nature would come alive when I was up there. I miss that tree.

Waterfalls and trees... those were my safe havens, far from the crowds and hussle bussle. Nature is pristine, and everything is sincere. It's an honest you can't find in the world anymore.

Thanks again for sharing. I will be checking out more of your hubs. I'll have more time next wk. I've seen a few that have piqued my interest.

Thank you for the generous and interesting comment Joy. It is great to hear about the personal experiences that a poem or piece of writing evokes from a reader. I loved hearing about your affinity with trees, and waterfalls. I too love to be surrounded by trees and nature, and fortunately I am in my present location. In fact most of the places I have lived have been in rural, or bushland settings.

I too loved to climb trees. We had a big flame tree in our garden at one place and I built a tree house there, where I spent most of my days. Yes, sometimes I wish we never had to grow up.

Asleep in the tree ! What a beautiful dream and an equally fantastic poem ! I know what pleasure it is to be in the company of trees. They were such good friends to have spent time with in childhood when children acted like pure monkeys. I was fortunate to be among that lot. Also, when we mature, it is equally pleasing to think about them, see them and experience their wonderful rhythm with the wind, rain, rays, days and nights. How wonderful that you thought about these wonderful creatures even in dreams ! John, I love the way you weaved your beautiful dream in this lovely poem. Voted up and shared.
