At Graveside's Edge

At Graveside's Edge...is a time when you can't say everything you would like to have said...to the one being lowered in the ground. Better to say it now!

My Mother-in-Law (My Wife's Mom) had a saying...much like the idea I am trying to express with this Poem. She would tell all her children that she would rather that they bring her all the flowers they wanted to give her now...instead of later (In other words...For her grave). Really...that thought is an important one. It is better to show someone today how important they are to us...before tomorrow when they might not be with us...any longer.

This Poem is called: "At Graveside's Edge"

"For the past 6 years, a German shepherd called Capitán has slept next to the grave of his owner every night at 6pm. His owner, Miguel Guzmán died in 2006." From a FaceBook Post.

At Graveside's Edge...next to Memories gone...

Comes Life's Greatest Victories and Defeats measured "Right" and "Wrong".

Now...Looking down...at the ground...

When...No one else is around.

This is not the time...to be thinking of a "Should-'ove"...

Now...Is not the time to be thinking of what "Should-'ove" been said to the one we love.

Life is fleeting...Sometimes...there is no tomorrow...

At Graveside's Edge...there is no time left for anything but sorrow.

Did we serve the one that is gone...the best that we should...?

What would we say to them one last time...if we only could ?

When we are at Graveside's Edge...there is nothing more to say...

We are standing by their side...but they have gone away...

In the past...I used to see you everyday...

When will I ever see you again, surely not anytime soon...surely with much delay.

Do we have any regret...?

Surely we do...I can only bet.

I stand here by your side...Now is the last time...

I'm not ready for you to go...too many things play out in my mind.

But Reality has a different ending...from the one I "Would-'ove" chose...

When you lose someone that matters...if there was anything left on the table...then only you knows.

At Graveside's Edge...it is too late for parting words...and things left unsaid...

I wanted to tell you all about what you did for my life...before you were dead.

Now at Graveside's Edge...I stand and stare...

Must live with this new reality...I am now totally aware.

Gone away from here...Your Memory is so strong...

Yet...I stand here all alone...with the very real reality...that you're gone.
