"Autumn Contentment"

Calendar pages

Into the wind,

Small kites

Limning cursive loops

on the whims

of the air.

Freedom breathes up

Through the colors

Of a pastel fallout –

the smells of dawn

mixing into a new, unknown day.

Like the first fresh

Whiffs of Autumn

When the earth

Turns away from

A long, sweltering summer –

spinning up leaves of our

new contentment.

Thank you! I wish the "long sweltering summer..." would go on!

The autumn is the most beautiful time of the year and your painting of it is just as great; "freedom breathes up through the colors of a pastel fallout" - brilliant!

You painted a beautiful picture of Autumn colors and leaves, one of my favorite seasons, when the long hot summer gets tucked away for a rest and the colors of autumn abound, I can hear the leaves as they crinkle under my feet and the squirrels scatter to find their nuts to bury for the long winter.

Beautiful poem on autumn. I always found it to be a melancholy season for me. I love the Sprin and Summer months.

2besure, Thank you. I love Spring and Summer too, especially Summer! And yet, when Autumn comes around, I am always stuck by the mysterious quality in the air - as something fresh and earthy - almost spiritual. Maybe that is the "melancholy" you feel.(?)

Kaie, So good to see you here! I love Fall, too. Thanks for stopping by.

Dolores, Thank you:) I know ~ early fall is when the air changes and all of the new scents and aspects float through the air - I love it! Glad you came by!

I always loved the Fall colors up north. In Houston we really like Fall because we know that our hot temperatures will start to moderate. You painted that picture above? Looks like you have been influenced by Cezanne. Nice!

You're right, the painting does look like a Cezanne - but, alas, I did not paint it - if only I could paint like that! It is actually Van Gogh's "Wheat Field and Cypress Trees". I just felt that the swirling brush-strokes resonated with the colors and sensations of Autumn so well ~ thanks for the nice comments. I'd like to see Houston in the Fall:)

Autumn is truly a remarkable time of the year (as all are times). It is as you said a refreshing experience after a sweltering summer, and as a hockey player and snowboarder, autumn excites me year after year as the onset of winter is quickly approaching. I specifically LOVE the colors that can be found along the northeast of this country during autumn. It is a magnificently beautiful time of year.

eilaner, Oh to be on the northeastern seaboard in autumn! It must be heavenly ~ all those colors. I find it magical that the familiar sensations of autumn come back year after year to inspire once again!
