The Beautiful Cold

The Beautiful Cold

The day I ruptured your heart

I will remember the sea

In the irises of your eyes

In the salt of your tears

That day you travelled the waves

I will remember your plea

That your love eclipsed grey skies

How could I be so cruel

I told you love is unkind

When it just isn't right

That day my heart sank like stone

With all the words you'd ever said

And I will harness my tongue

Like I harnessed your freedom

I will cast you to the tide

Grey like your smile, like your eyes

You'll never lose your sheen

You'll never lose your appeal

But my love is cold

Like the promises I made

I cast you to the water

I blessed you with a kiss

I took a mental picture

Of the memories I'd miss

Your heart will be someone's treasure

Your beauty someone's pleasure

In this grey your mind is reeling

And I'm devoid of feeling.

Beautiful, cold and CRUEL. just like my former girlfriend! I'm still reeling from the effects.Perhaps that's why my poems have such dark humor.

Surfeitt, You are on the stage in my heart and I say bravo as this poem is one of your best. I see that this a confession that I wish someone would have made to me when I was so hurt. I comprehend it so well. I always have tears in my eyes when I read your poetry.

God that is too close to home! I wish I could have heard my ex-fiance say such words back then. To at least admit to it. Like Silent Reed, I am still feeling the effects. Thanks for the honesty and transparency.

Honesty is a beautiful thing. It's the beginning of change.
