Becoming One With the Sun

The sun dancing off the water
The sun dancing off the water | Source

This poem was written back in my hippie days. Nature was and continues to be my energizing force and triggers most of my inspiration. Please take the time to view the video I chose to accompany this piece. I have actually met and shared nature with the artist at several Miccosukee music festivals in the Florida Keys. He his an honorary member of the Miccosukee tribe and sings each year at the annual festival; one of few to which "white man" is invited.

On the gray and lonely

Days

When all seems forsaken

A vision comes through

My soul

And lifts

My spirits.

The Sun,

Dancing off the water,

The trees,

Gently swaying

In the breeze –

All seems to be celebrating

Life.

The dreary thoughts

Melt away

And the warmth

Comes back to my Soul.

Becoming one with

The sun

In Celebration.

I think you captured the essence of basking in the warmth of the sun very well! Good job, brave! :) I feel warmer already! :)

Breathe her in, TT and regain perspective. You don't know how many times I close my eyes, spread my arms and lift my face to the sun until I feel the warmth penetrate my body. It burns out the negative and gives me new life.

Thank you for your thoughts. BTW, I just read your interview. Loved it! It's always nice to get to know the people we gain as acquaintances. That's how we become comrades!

I appreciate your comment securityproducts3. I don't know if you're aware, but HP brings your pen name up as spam. You might want to modify it so you don't get disregarded.

Loved the poetry, stunning photographs and Richie Haven's "Here Comes the Sun." Whenever I hear that song it always makes me feel happy and optimistic.

How cool that you've had the pleasure of hearing him perform it in person and enjoying a nature festival with him.

Voted up across the board except for funny.

It was awesome spending time with Richie Havens, Gail. I had written a TV commercial for the Miccosukee Indians and kinda hung out with the acting Chief. He and his brother had a rock band called "Tiger Tiger". Lee Tiger, who is now Chief, was acting Chief for his aging father. Richie Havens performs each year at the Miccosukee Music Festival held in Key Marathon, in a stone outdoor amphitheater.

I sat about 10 feet from the stage and was invited backstage when his performance was over. It was pretty awesome!

I'm glad you like my poem and can appreciate Richie Havens. I like his rendition best!

I am so glad I live in a country where the sun shines unhampered by clouds almost all the days of a year. I am a hippie by heart, but I never had the opportunity to be a hippie. Even while I lived for 2 years among them, too many responsibilities kept me from becoming a genuine hippie. This is a beautiful poem!

bravewarrior profile image

bravewarrior 4 years ago from Central Florida Author

Thank you Martie! I also live in the land of perpetual sun, except for the rainy season, which is June thru October! Florida is called the Sunshine State. However, I too was a wanna be hippie. My heart was there, but being born in 1957, I wasn't exactly free to live the movement in the 60's. My heart has always been there and still is today. Including the rebelliousness. I've always been a rebel, but stop to smell the roses.

Sadly, we don't see beauty nor do we speak up against that which offends us. It's kept to sites like this instead of being shouted out as the hippies during the Vietnam era did.

Sad.

Beautiful poem. It really captures the ability of nature to revitalize us. Something as simple as sitting in the sun on a warm day can make us feel rejuvenated.

MelRootsNWrites, thank you for your comment. I often lift my face to the sun, close my eyes, and breathe in. It really does seem to energize me.
