Between the Darkness and the Dawn

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn

Thoughts race like startled deer

So much that comes to mind

As darkness covers the sky

While above the stars are winking

And the moon is smiling from above

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn

So many memories come crashing in

They leave their mark

As my fingers

Ever faster fly across the keyboard

Never knowing when to stop

Never knowing what will come out

Just during the earliest hours

When midnight has come and gone

Things that go bump in the night

Just send me on adventures

Perhaps riding across the night sky

Along with the clouds that fly by

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn

So much to explore

When the stress of day has gone

And the mind has time to relax

Then so many things come to mind

And produce pictures and many smiles

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn

Those magical horses come riding in

But they’ll all fade away

Leaving streaks across the brightening sky

Once the morning sun

Come peaking over the horizon

But I’ll be there to welcome them all back

Once again when the day has ended

And the fun begins

Somewhere between the darkness and the dawn

Gypsy - I really like this. You have captured beautifully, how those of us feel who are primarily night readers and writers. Very nice work.

Have a Blessed Christmas and New Year. :) Theresa

I love everything about this poem. I like the title. I like how the rhythm captures the energy of

"As my fingers

Ever faster fly across the keyboard

Never knowing when to stop

Never knowing what will come out"

V+ for sure!

Blessings,

Kim

Very nice, Rasma! Much of my inspiration has come during those hours when the tired mind lets down its defenses and opens to creativity.

Love hearing from you all. I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a bright and shiny New Year.

It really is Jamie.

With wintertime and my busy schedule I'm practically working in the darkness all the time now wetnosedogs. The days are gray and short and soon it is night fall again.

Glad you enjoyed this Theresa.

Glad you enjoyed this Linda.

Writing this my was just as quick and I had to look back at what was upon the page Kim. Thanks for the vote. Blessings.

Glad you enjoyed this Vellur and thanks for the vote,

Glad you enjoyed this Bill.

I love the all nighter feeling Liz.

It does open up to creativity more in the nighttime Wayne.

Glad you enjoyed it Leslie. Hugs.

You are a very creative poet and I love the imagery you present with you work Ed. You are awesome yourself. Hugs.

Glad you enjoyed this Genna. As I write my thoughts come forth and what comes out goes down in writing. The deer line came when I had a imagery of the bright lights of an approaching car and sometimes my thoughts fly just as quickly.

I am becoming very familiar with the period of time you describe. Night living is my new norm. Loved the line about startled deer. Very visual and creative.
