Still The Waters
"Still The Waters" is a perfect metaphor for how we can calm the storms we experience in our personal lives by riding the waves of spiritual awakening, no matter your religion. God never created a storm meant to last forever and we can feel assured the turbulence will pass; usually not without a hidden lesson. Only, what if one gets stuck and can't figure out the lesson and the storm returns again and again? What if our own thought patterns are the cause of our storms elevating them to tidal waves? That's when it's most vital to "still the waters" of our noisy minds. There are a multitude of methods to help us center and connect to our quiet core selves, our God selves. It matters not whether we're experiencing financial setbacks, relationship issues, work difficulties, health problems and/or problems completely outside of our control. There's something we can all do to free ourselves from those outward disturbances by stepping inward. We can open our hearts and follow the flow of our own unique spiritual path, even if it's just a trickle.
Oh sure, you might say, I've heard this sort of stuff before. Maybe you heard, but weren't truly listening or weren't ready for change at your soul level. It's time to look around and notice there's a mass movement, awakening, enlightenment and it's a welcomed thing. Anyway,if you desire freedom from fear, it is, and most likely you do.
Frankly, I've only recently opened myself up to true spiritual awareness outside of my small world. This "awareness" gained steam ever since my beloved husband, Joseph, returned home to spirit and left me and my two sons with broken hearts. With his help from above, new information seems to be flooding in every time I turn around. It's as if new knowledge is gushing over the riverbanks, leading me to my own inner calm. No longer can I think its my imagination running wild.
With that in mind, I feel compelled to share with you what I've learned lately that has helped me ride the waves of my own storms in hopes that it will inspire you too. I have assembled some modern day mentors who have been the most influential in my journey. Take note of the similar truths that thread between each of their messages fortifying those truths. Also, I might add, the most influential ones are first and last; Echkheart Tolle and Neal Donald Walsch.
Note: This hub is filled with lots of thought provoking information so I have enhanced it with my photography for you to enjoy and contemplate with silent moments.
Eckhart Tolle Interviewed by Oprah Winfrey
Eckhart Tolle is author of The Power of Now, Stillness Speaks, Awakening of Your Life's Purpose, A New Earth and more. In 2011, he was listed by the Watkins Review as the most spiritually influential person in the world. In 2008, a New York Times writer calls Tolle, "The most popular spiritual author in the United States".
Below are several meaningful Tolle quotes which caught my attention from an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Oprah believes he's a modern day prophet and I'm inclined to agree.
Echkhart Tolle Quotes:
"Ask life what purpose it has for you by practicing moments of stillness to get to the spaces where there are potential answers."
Be patient, it was two years before Tolle had his big "aha" moment about writing his first novel.
"You get a strong impulse when the time is right, as if something in the world needs to be born. It's a strong knowing absent of the decision making process. Trust life when impulse comes; you learn to discern."
During his awakening journey, Eckhart said his thinking process was inspired from something deeper making it more powerful.
"All creative endeavors are born within the space of stillness."
"The hyperactive mind is extremely repetitive."
"When you have spaces in between thoughts, your thinking improves i.e. . . better ideas, better relationships, original thoughts, stepping out of role playing."
"Consciousness itself is the foundation of life . . . you could say "God"."
"Stillness is consciousness, be the witness; we are the observer."
"With stillness you become aware of your inner body, its aliveness and it likes it, it likes your attentions and that is healing. You may feel the energy within your body such as a tingling in your hands, breathing, heart beating, muscles relaxing, sounds etc. To know the stillness slows down noisy thinking."
When I began to pay attention to his advice, I suddenly realized how noisy my own repetitive thoughts were, especially the negative ones. With practice, I got good at catching myself doing it. I devised my own methods of letting them go and from it, gained peace of mind and no longer live in fear.

Eckhart Tolle and Flowers:
"Nature can be an access point to inner stillness. Flowers are more fleeting (ethereal) having less density so spirit can flow through them more freely. When you contemplate a flower, it can help you block out the busy mind to get you in touch with your deeper dimension within. This is what Jesus meant when he said "Look at the Lilies of the Field". We can have what the flowers embody, freeness from anxiety without concern about tomorrow. Flowers and anything in nature can be messengers from another realm."
On Naming and Labeling Things:
"Try seeing a flower or anything in nature without labeling it or naming it. You'll be observing the flowers, trees or all nature through the background of stillness. You may find yourself seeing life vibrating because it helps get you out of your head."
Oprah described her experience with this. For the first time in her life, she said she felt a magical presence, power, strength and a connection.

Question from a caller during the Oprah podcast: "Why is there an increased intensity and speed in which people are becoming in touch with awakening (Christ consciousness), especially in the past ten years?"
Answer by Tolle: "Essential things don't happen unless there's an absolute need. We have reached a "crisis" point. Today, the egoic consciousness is becoming more destructive as technology amplifies the ego's dysfunctions. We are in the process of destroying the planet and collective conflict will continue to cause collapse unless there is a shift, an awakening. So, if humanity wants to make it into the next evolutionary level, we need to shift our collective consciousness. Awakening was a luxury in the past and the few awakened tried to teach others, but there was much misinterpretation."
Oprah reiterated: "There is a collective consciousness and each one of us has a responsibility to observe our own dysfunctional (negativity) egoic thoughts to change the negative collective to positive."
Oprah Winfrey Quotes during Eckhart Tolle interview:
"Discover the Power Within You" written by Eric Butterworth helped me reconcile my Christian background with new information of spirituality."
"Jesus came to show us a Christ consciousness or higher consciousness. He showed us how it is done by being a living example and mentor. He gave us laws and principles to guide us to higher consciousness and not to start Christianity."
"Jesus was a revolutionary who has been misinterpreted a lot."
"Religion can be a closed door when you accept it as an ideology telling you what is the right and wrong path."
"Old religion tells you what "to" and what "not to" believe by authorities . . . new religion says your own path is okay."
"I am a free thinking Christian."
Dr. Wayne Dyer and Lao-tzu
"When there is silence, one finds the anchor of the universe within oneself" (Lao-tzu).
Quoting Dr. Wayne Dyer from an Oprah Winfrey interview:
"We have 60,000 thoughts everyday; many of which are repetitive"
"Thoughts are electromagnetic frequencies" . . . "Every thought has energy (some with high frequencies and some with low frequencies)" . . . "Everything in the Universe has energy."
"You become what you think".
During a PBS special he referred to the great "I Am" suggesting we use it to change our thoughts, thus change our lives. I'll elaborate on this later from the book, Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsch.
In his book, Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life Dr. Wayne Dyer writes an essay for each of the 81 verses of the Tao-Te-Ching (a book of wisdom written 2500 years ago) authored by the prophet Lao-tzu. Dyer applies its valuable wisdom to the 21st Century. Here are some of his thoughts pertaining to the wisdom of the Tao:
"Take time to "let go and let God" every single day. Say the words over and over to yourself until you can actually feel the difference. Letting go is a markedly distinct physical and psychological experience, much different from striving. Let go of your demands that you can't be happy because of what's supposedly missing in your life."
"Thinking about being somewhere else uses up your precious present moments; the enlightened sage makes a practice of immersing him/herself completely in the current "nowness" of life."
"Practice letting go of thoughts about what's not here now."
"Become an astute observer, judge less . . . listen more."
"Release the what-ifs and all of your goals and fears for the future, replacing them with the power of this instant; be here, be now."
"Embrace oneness by seeing yourself in everyone you encounter. Stop yourself from judgments and walk an imaginary mile in other's shoes. Do so with all forms of life, even the plant world. See yourself in everyone and all creations, we are the world."
"Everyone is God speaking . . . why not be polite and listen to him." (the poet Hafiz)
Teal Scott is a spiritual catalyst and author of, The Sculptor in the Sky who writes and teaches about spirituality, the meaning of life, and the road to health and happiness. In the first years of her life it became apparent that she was gifted with extrasensory abilities. I first was introduced to her by a fellow Hubpages writer and have been impressed by her knowledge and likable presence.
Teal Scott Quotes:
"The exploration of our eternal nature reveals that at our most fundamental level, we are all energy. This energy expresses itself in many different ways, but it always has been, always is, and always will be, the same energy. This means that the most fundamental truth in this universe is the truth of "oneness".
"The space of consciousness is oneness. We are one. The answers of the universe is in us."
"Happiness depends what you're focused on. Focus on what you want, not what you don't want. Focusing on what you don't want separates you from what you do want."
"Let go of thoughts that impede your connection to your higher self i.e. . . negative thoughts, fear, anxiety. Practice calm breathing to help you accomplish connecting to your higher source self which has always been there."
"Consciousness and frequency go hand and hand. Low (negative) energy frequencies (ego) restricts the flow of life forces and intuition. High (positive) energy frequencies raises the flow of life forces, clarity of consciousness, and intuition."
"Enlightenment is people coming into alignment with their own internal vibrations (frequencies) where the vibrations of fear cannot not exist."
"Meditation is one of the best things to do to change your focus or step into the observing mind where your'e looking at the thoughts without judging or investing in them; like watching clouds passing in the sky."
When I need a reminder to go within and let go of negativity, I can go on U-Tube and pick out one of the many presentations or radio interviews of Teal and be uplifted by her surprising accumulation of knowledge. Or, if I want to manifest abundance or search for my purpose in life, I can choose one of those to gain advise. I like her intelligent youthful spirit.

Deepak Chopra is a world renowned mind-body healing pioneer and founder of the Chopra Center for Well Being in California. He has authored 65 books including several New York Times best sellers. Time magazine heralds him as one of the top hundred heroes and icons of the century and credits him as "the poet-prophet of alternative medicine."
Deepak also advises to meditate everyday and watch or allow your thoughts to come in and out like clouds floating by in the sky. In an interview, he told Oprah he does it two hours everyday, but is not suggesting that for everyone. He suggests ten minutes, or so, twice a day and that early morning is the best time so that you don't fall asleep.
The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer
Michael Singer Quotes:
"Spiritual growth can begin by silencing the negative thoughts in our head."
"Once you make a commitment to free yourself of that scared person inside, you'll notice a clear decision point at which your growth takes place and you feel your energy start to change."
"When problems show up in your life: Relax and lean away from the mass noise the mind creates in everyday life. Give the problem space and room to pass through. Connect to the seed of your core quiet self and you'll be more clear about what to do."
Neale Donal Walsch's "Conversations With God"
My personal favorite which changed my life and thinking after my dear husband, Joseph, left our Earthly world. I believe it was divine intervention from God, his angels and Joseph's spirit that this book reached me. I would have never sought it out on my own. It sent me on a new journey from which I feel closer to Father God and Mother Earth. I feel so grateful that a new sense of spiritual growth and inner peace has begun to replace my grief.
Neale Donald Walsch wrote Conversations With God, an uncommon dialogue; his first book of three was published in 1996. When Neale Donald Walsch was down on his luck, hitting rock bottom, while calling out to God, he heard a voice and his amazing conversation with God commenced as he felt a strong urge to write it down. Throughout the book he asks the questions of God and the quotes below are God's responses. The first book became a publishing phenomenon resting on the New York Times bestseller list for 137 weeks. Book 2 and Book 3 also made the bestseller list. When it was given to me to read, I was quickly convinced it was God speaking to him, to us, to me. For many of you reading this, it will raise more questions than answers, but I'm here to tell you, God covers it thoroughly through his messenger in Neale Donald Walsch.
God conveys ways he speaks to us :
"My Truth is in the whisper of the wind, the babble of the brook, the crack of the thunder, the tap of the rain. It is the feel of the earth, the fragrance of the lily, the warmth of the sun, the pull of the moon."
"I talk to everyone. All the time. The question is not to who do I talk, but who listens?"
"Listen to your feelings. Listen to your Highest Thoughts. Listen to your experience. Whenever any one of these differ from what you've been told by your teachers, or read in your books, forget the words. Words are the least reliable purveyor of Truth."
As many of his messages make me think, this one really got to me:
"By listening to what other people think they heard Me say, you don't have to think at all. This is the biggest reason for most people turning from My messages on a personal level. If you acknowledge that you are receiving My messages directly, then you are responsible for interpreting them. It is far safer and much easier to accept the interpretation of others (even others who have lived 2,000 years ago)."
And this one too:
"Hear Me, everywhere. Whenever you have a question, simply know that I have answered it already. Then open your eyes to your world. My response could be in an article already published. In the movie now being made. In the song just yesterday composed. In the words about to be said by a loved one. In the heart of a new friend about to be made."
"My Truth . . . and your surest help in time of need . . . is as awesome as the night sky, and as simply, incontrovertibly trustful as a baby's gurgle. It is as loud as a pounding heartbeat . . . and as quiet as a breath taken in unity with Me."
"I will not leave you, I cannot leave you, for you are My creation and My product, My daughter and My son, My purpose and My . . . Self. Call on Me, therefore, wherever and whenever you are separate from the peace that I am . . . I will be there. With Truth. And Light. And Love."
On The Goal of Our Souls and How to Attain It
Neale Donald Walsch asked God that if he obeyed the natural laws He created in the universe, would he never have a moment's trouble again?
God's Answer: "You would never experience your Self as being in what you call "trouble". You would not understand any life situation to be a problem. You would not encounter any circumstance with trepidation. You would put an end to all worry, doubt, and fear. You would live as you fantasize Adam and Eve lived . . . not as disembodied spirits in the realm of absolute, but as embodied spirits in the realm of the relative. Yet you would have all the freedom, all the joy, all the peace, and all the wisdom, understanding and power of the Spirit you are. You would be a fully realized being."
"This is the goal of your soul. This is its purpose . . . to fully realize itself while in the body; to become the embodiment of all that it really is. . . This is my plan for you. This is My ideal: that I should become realized through you. That thus, concept is turned into experience, that I might know my Self experientially."
Neale Donald Walsch asked: "Then how can I know these laws? How can I learn them?"
God: "It is not a question of learning, but of remembering."
NDW: "How can I remember them?"
God: "Begin by being still. Quiet the outer world, so that the inner world might bring you sight. This in-sight is what you seek, yet you cannot have it while you are so deeply concerned with your outer reality. Seek, therefore, to go within as much as possible. And when you are not going within, come from within as you deal with the outside world. Remember this axiom: If you do not go within, you go without."
On Why God is the same as "Now":
God: "God is everywhere. Therefore, God is nowhere in particular, because to be somewhere in particular, God would have to not be somewhere else . . . which is not possible for God. There is only one thing possible "not possible" for God, and that is for God to not be God. God cannot "not be". God cannot un-God itself. I am everywhere, and that's all there is to it. And since I am everywhere, I am nowhere. And if I am NOWHERE, where am I? NOW HERE."
God: "Thought is pure energy. Every thought you have, have ever had, and ever will have is creative. The energy of your thought never ever dies. Ever. It leaves your being and heads out into the universe."
"All thoughts congeal; all thoughts meet other thoughts, crisscrossing in an incredible maze of energy, forming an ever-changing pattern of unspeakable beauty and unbelievable complexity."
"Like energy attracts like energy . . . forming (to use simple words) clumps of energy of like kinds. When enough "clumps" crisscross each other . . . run into each other . . . they stick to each other. It takes an incomprehensibly huge amount of similar energy to form matter. But matter will form out of pure energy."
To shorten this next part, God went on to explain how matter remains matter a very long time unless it is disrupted by dissimilar forms of energy. When acted upon, the dissimilar energy actually dismembers the matter releasing the raw energy of which it was composed. In elementary terms it is the theory behind the atomic bomb of which Einstien came closer to than any other human . . . before or since to discovering, explaining, and functionalizing the creative secret of the universe.
"You should now better understand how people of like minds can work together to create a favored reality. The phrase "Wherever two or more are gathered in My name" becomes much more meaningful."
On Collective Consciousness:
God: "When entire societies think a certain way, very often astonishing things happen . . . not all of them necessarily desirable. For instance, a society living in fear, very often produces in form that which it fears most. Similarly, large communities or congregations often find miracle producing power in combined thinking (or what some people call common prayer)."
"And it must be made clear that even individuals . . . if their thought (prayer, hope, wish, dream, fear) is amazingly strong . . . can in and of themselves, produce such results. Jesus did this regularly. He understood how to manipulate energy and matter, how to rearrange it, how to redistribute it, how to utterly control it. Many Masters have known this. Many know it now. You can know it right now".
"Thought is the first level of creation. Next comes words. Words are more dynamic and creative than thought because words are a different level of vibrations. They disrupt, change, alter, affect the universe with greater impact. Next comes actions. Actions are words moving."
"Actions are words moving. Words are thoughts expressed. Thoughts are ideas formed. Ideas are energies come together. Energies are forces released. Forces are elements existent. Elements are particles of God, portions of All, the stuff of everything."
"Each person must take responsibility for herself or himself . . . that is undeniably true. But America . . . and your world . . . can truly work only when every person is willing to stand responsible for all of you as a Whole."
More on Collective Consciousness and Oneness
NDW asked: "Is there any way out of this mess?"
God: "Yes. Shall I say it again? A shift in consciousness. You cannot solve the problems which plague humankind through governmental action or by political means. You have been trying that for thousands of years. The change that must be made can be made only in the hearts of men."
NDW: "Can You put the change that must be made into one sentence?"
God: "I already have several times. You must stop seeing God as separate from you, and you as separate from each other. The only solution is the Ultimate Truth: nothing exists in the universe that is separate from anything else. Everything is intrinsically connected, irrevocably interdependent, interactive, interwoven into the fabric of all of life. All government, all politics, must be rooted in it. This is the future hope of your race; the only hope for your planet."
God: "Worry is the activity of the mind which does not understand its connection with Me. Fear is the opposite of everything you are, and so has an effect of opposition to your mental and physical health. Fear is worry magnified."
On the Great "I AM":
God: "The word "I" is the key that starts the engine of creation. The words "I am" are extremely powerful. They are statements to the universe. Commands. Whatever follows the word "I" (which calls forth the Great I Am) tends to manifest physical reality."
Many Masters I have sent you, Buddha, Jesus, Krishna have known this. Many know it now. You can know it. Right now.
"Every Master has likewise had the same message: What I am, you are. What I can do, you can do. These things and more, shall you also do."
On the Ultimate Truth:
God: "Your body, your mind, and your soul (spirit) are one. In this, you are a microcosm of Me . . . the Divine All, the Holy Everything, the Sum and Substance. You see now how I am the beginning and the end of everything, the Alpha and the Omega?"
"Now I will explain to you the ultimate mystery, your exact and true relationship to Me. YOU ARE MY BODY. As your body is your mind and soul, so, too, are you to My mind and soul. Therefore, everything I experience, I experience through you. Just as your body, mind and spirit are one, so too, are Mine. So it is that Jesus of Nazareth, among the many who understood this mystery, spoke immutable truth when he said "I and the Father are One." Now I will tell you, there are even larger truths than this to which you will one day become privy. For even as you are the body, of Me, I am the body of another."
On the soul's desire, purpose in life:
NDW: "How can I act with love when all my previous experience is screaming at me that a particular "moment" is likely to be painful?"
God: "Ignore your previous experience and go into the moment. Be Here Now. See what there is to work with right now in creating yourself anew. Remember, this is what you are doing here. You have come to this world in this way, at this time, in this place, to KNOW WHO YOU ARE . . . and to create Who You Wish to Be. This is the purpose of all of life. Life is an ongoing, never-ending process of re-creation. You keep recreating your selves in the image of your next highest idea about yourselves."
"You are not on this planet to produce anything with your body. You are on this planet to produce something with your soul. Your body is simply and merely the tool of your soul. Your mind is the power that makes the body go. So what you have here is a power tool used in the creation of the soul's desire."
"It is the soul's intention to know itself experientially . . . and thus to know Me. For the soul understands that You and I are One, even as the mind denies this truth and the body acts out of this denial. Therefore, be out of your mind and do some soul searching instead. The soul understands what the mind cannot conceive."
"It is a great time-saver to be out of your mind. Decisions are reached quickly, choices are activated rapidly, because your soul creates out of present experience only, without review, analysis, and criticism of past encounters."
"I am the wind which rustles your hair. I am the sun which warms your body. I am the rain which dances on your face."
"I am the beginning of your first thought. I am the end of your last. I am the idea which sparked your most brilliant moment. I am the glory of its fulfillment. I am the feeling which fueled the most loving thing you ever did. I am the part of you which yearns for that feeling again and again."
"Whatever works for you, whatever makes it happen . . . whatever ritual, ceremony, demonstration, meditation, thought, song, word, or action it takes for you to "reconnect" . . . do this."
