Bonded

Bonded

He had been used to people laughing at him all through his life and that awkward moment when they would say "really ?" when he told them that he wasn't joking. Most did still think he was joking though and it became more embarrassing and awkward as they called over people that they knew to tell them. It almost always went like this. The amount of people listening would grow from one or two into a small group of maybe a dozen as more and more people would see the shocked looks and hear the hilarity and would come and join in. The people already there would say to the newcomers " you've got to hear this. Ask him what his name is". The newcomers thought there would have been more to it than that but asked anyway-            " what's your name"  He replied "my name's Bond. James Bond."    with that the people who had  already heard were laughing again but the newcomers just shrugged their shoulders. "So What", one of them said "he's called James Bond. I know a lot of people that have got the same names as famous people. It's no big deal".       "No that's not it", said one of the people who had already heard the story. " That's what we thought as well at first but there's more to it".

At this moment the guy who was the object of their fun had had enough.  It usually happened about this moment of being questioned  and he decided to get it over with and just tell them all.             "Right this is what you want to know "he said " i'll tell you all but then that will be it finished and i'll need to go".  The group all nodded and agreed with this.    "Okay, i'll begin" he said. "You asked my name and i said my name is Bond. James Bond.   This is true but i wasn't doing a James Bond impression or trying to be smart- this is my name"      "You see, my first name is My name is Bond and my second name is James Bond."      He was used to the disbelieving looks and questions at this stage of his life so he was always prepared with his documents- birth certificate, drivers licence whatever it took.

He showed everyone the documents and some were laughing and others were curious about the strange name.   He explained that his mother and father were big James Bond fans and wanted to give him a very memorable and , as they saw it, character building name.  He had always had people asking questions and mocking him all through his life because of his name, but as people got to know him more he was accepted and was given a shorter name such as Jim Bond, or JB in schools or workplaces.   It wasn't all bad he explained to people. Sometimes he would just use a different or shorter name but on other occasions he would have fun with it.  He explained that it could be a funny thing giving your real name at a doctors, dentist, or job interview.  When you were then called to go in it could be quite funny hearing someone call out for you "my name's Bond. James Bond" This time it was them who had the embarrassment and it could be made worse for them if he pretended he hadn't heard and they had to repeat themselves.

He then explained that he promised his parents that he would not change his name and he would keep that promise. At least while they were alive.       By this time the group listening to him were ready to disperse and one or two were asking  some friendly mocking sort of questions, such as is Goldfinger your Grandfather ?, is Q your next door neighbour ?  Just as he was about to leave somebody asked "Is Miss Moneypenny your aunt ?"  He was about to just ignore it and leave but decided while he was telling all he would tell this as well. " No, actually she's my sister but don't you know you have to pronounce it like Mish Moneypenny."      They were nodding and someone said "good Sean Connery impression".    With that he went into his pocket and pulled out some more paperwork.  It was some photocopies he had of his sisters details and he showed it to the group. He pointed to her name and said " No it's not a Sean Connery impression. That is her actual name as you can see here- Mish Moneypenny".
