Lost Souls in the winters night........

When you go out of doors your mind and
body become a part of an abyss
One speck in the universe giving in
to the ultimate mistress

She beckons the wanderers soul not
unlike the dancers of night
An awesome magnetism or a gentle
whisper....whichever feels right

Breathing frozen waters where my
breath becomes visibly cast
A speck........ one speck......how can such
insignificance last

I will die here by the boundery waters
ashes to dust and dust to the end
To become just one more speck in
the universe ...again and again

To perhaps blow over the edges of granite
peaks in the rain or snow
Up here in the mountains of home
and yet home is where I'll go

Fear not for me lost into forests of
time forgotten
Or on ridges of bare earth where
my destinies gotten

Giving in to live outside is all thats ever worth
dying for I think
Here for eternity and yet
gone in a blink

Tomorrow I am going outside, only for the day alas. One of my favorite waterfalls is two miles into the forest and we are hiking in to sit for a while. Inspiration for my writing abounds there as well as peace and rest. Thank you for a lovely introspection on the importance of being outside. I could be happy as a lost soul wandering in the beautiful outdoors. When I die, I have left instructions for my ashes to be poured off this waterfall so I can travel throughout creation. How wonderful. HB

It is a beautiful picture and poem, deserves a mark up. I have seen the real thing quite enough, even a few times here where it gets so hot there is no air but I have more beautiful out days here than there, if I can make it til fall. The best thing about your place is cool nights even on hot days I bet, I always liked that...better sleeping.

Hi Jackie , nice to see you, I lived in N.C. for a couple of years , can't take the constand [almost ] humidity. Yes, you do have a better summer in length though , hope you're enjoying it tremendously.:-}

On a more simple level; I am a prisoner when I cannot be outside; feeling the wind, hearing the rustle of it in treetops, smelling the freshness of new rain, the whisper of far away voices; natural denizens of the night..early morning. I must be able to be outside; this is like cleansing, renewing.

In the incredible heat of the last month where I currently reside; I am dieing inside.

I feel like a prisoner...captive in four walls..unable to move freely. Nature is a MUST!!

In a more cerebral understanding; my own interpretation..freedom from anything which encloses, places captive, encumbers movement...

and, we are but a speck; "dust in the wind." Insignificant in the physical but, I pray and hope fervently, very significant at the end of this life; when our spirit truly is freed and is, then, able to truly be. I can only imagine.

UP Beautiful Awesome...Cerebral and Intelligent.
