How To Build Character

  • Become an expert at saying NO.  Often times someone will try to push you into doing something you know is wrong.  Just say NO.
  • Select good friends with good character traits to hang out with.  You are often judged by the company you keep.  Plus if you are with those with good character you will not be doing the type of things you should not be doing.
  • Establish your stand of character.  Write down what you want to accomplish, what traits you need to work on.  And when the going gets hard, don't give up.
  • Share your list of standards and traits with someone you respect, admire, and care about.  Don't be afraid to ask them to help keep you on the straight and narrow.
  • Stay away from drugs and alcohol, they are addictive.  When you become addicted to them you give up your will and ability to make good decisions.
  • Stay focused and committed to your goal.  You are the only one who can determine what type of person you are.  As hard you think it is to develop good character traits, it is so much harder to have to live with bad character traits.

How I love this. The first one is so true...everything we do and everything we are we have decided to be. I think that Elbert Hubbard one is the boss. I love it. And I'm bookmarking this. And, obviously, for you to have the character to research and write about character--it shows a lot about your own. Nice work, KKG!! UP and bookmarked.

Thanks Pamela. Unfortunately I believe that good character traits don't seem as important to some people as they were years ago.

surendra, how true that is "Character is the soul of the human being." Now, if we could only teach the new generation that we would have it made.
