Cabin By The Sea...A Poem

The child stood still watching

As the waters grew still

Ignoring his mother’s frantic calling

As he absorbed his first kill

Staring at his father's coffin

He held his mother’s hand

He had slayed the villain

Easier than he had planned

The water never stopped whispering

Invading his dreams every night

Its soft voice ever coaxing

Thoughts of more, meant to excite

But soon they moved away

Far from the cabin by the sea

And the horrible events of that day

His mother finally content and free

The teenage boy glared

As the water started to churn

The eyes of his tormenter finally scared

As it started to boil then burn

The pool was closed down

To fish out the body

The gruesome death scaring the town

Never a tale so bloody

The cabin by the sea called

With promises of laughter

The voices in his head promised

A happy ever after

Standing in the sand

He watched as the rapist drowned

Her fingers slipping into his hand

His forever now bound

The darkness started to creep in

A son on the way and a new wife

His power corrupted as he begin to sin

To support his new way of life

More and more had to die

Murder replacing justice

His heart ignoring the sea's cry

His mind too mad to notice

Addicted to the thrill

His family lived in fear

Watching in horror as he lived to kill

Forgetting everything he once held dear

Standing in the sand

He watched the villain die

Ignoring his dad desperate hand

He refused to let himself cry

The whispers filled his mind

As the young boy stood watching

Reassuring him, the voice kind

His dad finally disappearing

Returning to the cabin by the sea

The child started to play

He and his mum were finally free

All because of what the sea had to say...

I am ashamed to say that I don't get it and I so much want to :-)

A legacy of madness encouraged by the mysterious calls from the darkness of the sea! This would be an excellent plot for a movie. Great job NH! :)

De Greek,

A legacy of family madness tied into the strange power that is the sea, after re reading it (sober)I have to admit it is a bit vague, but thank you so much for taking the time to try and get it and leaving a comment, I may just have to do a little bit of editing...Thanks :)

I got it perfectly, was not the child raped by his father ,killed him, then lived the same life style in his mind until he was finally freed,or maybe this is not correct, anyway,I was spellbound throughout.Thank you.

I enjoy reading and writing dark poetry. This poem express my understanding of your poem. I hope I got it right :)

The siren call of the sea

awakes the demon lurking within

madness finally prevail and set free

the urge of the primeval beast

to kill and kill... again and again

One replaces the other as the madness is passed all somehow driven by the call of nearby sea. I guess the question becomes can you leave the seashore and harness the demon or will the sea call it back once again? Thanks for sharing! WB

What people are capable of when they are pushed too far is astoundingly evident in your poem. Powerful stuff. Loved it thanks!

....well I must admit this thrilling chilling piece is one of my favorites of all time here at the Hub - and suitable for framing in epi-man's Louvre in his mind.

As you probably know from my style (sometimes dark) I would simply love something like this - and I am so inspired - now I want to live by the sea - but in actual fact I live by a large lake (which looks like the sea - lol lol) and you have put a lot of creative ideas in my head with one - bravo bravo bravo - this kind of writing seems to be your literal calling ......

It always amazes me how ones mind can be taken control of from the deepest recesses of our minds. I sensed this chilling brilliant work with every stroke of your pen, I to have a past and it haunts me still this day.

I love the sea and to die in it would be a reward for many. May all predators end up in hell where they belong. Peace my friend I felt the sweat begin to run down my face reading this very explicit work. Bravo, well done, rate UP and Up some more.

once the darkness of the world touches you for whatever reason it leaves a mark, and the scars of the mind are the hardest to heal...

I am a little speechless at your very kind, thought provoking comment, so I will simply say thank you very much such high praise from someone I admire and respect so much was unexpected...thank you((hugs))

Hi nighthag, I think the child was raped by his father, and then became a killer. I liked it very much! :)

I am so glad that you liked it!, the poem is about abuse, both physical and sexual and with the power of the sea the victim becomes the predator...thanks so much for taking the time to read!

Vincent Moore 5 years ago

Simply brilliant a piece, an artist at work, to add to all the heart felt words above you touched my soul. Abuse is a very sad crime and it's victims pay the price of losing their cherished innocence, very sad indeed. All predators should be sent to the very deepest abyss of the sea and never to surface again.

Thank you so much for such wonderful compliments!

I am so glad that you liked this, abuse is a vicious thing no matter what form it tries to hide, And I have to admit I have little pity for these types of predators...

A gripping read- cycle of life- very powerful narrative, well constructed - all because of what the sea wanted to say ... haunting! well done, nighthag.

I am so flattered that one of my poems qualifies for being one of your favorites, and even more flattered by the idea that I may have inspired your writing,

I enjoyed LIKE MOSS ON A ROCK and will happily take you from the light to the dark to get more poems like this from you :)

Ah, the nighthag returns to the darkness like a moth to a flame. I, for one, very much enjoy the macabre nature of your work. I expect to be enshrouded by the blacker side of human nature whenever I visit your hubs, and you never let me down. Bravo and keep letting the blood flow.

Well Master Doug Turner you certainly know how to make a girl blush with such high praise as this, It thrills me to no end to know that you not only enjoyed this poem, but the other darker pieces that I have written as well.

Thank you for the inspiration to write more!

Darkness never end, from generation to generation, raising beast within. That beast is their heritage. Not money, not fame, not greatness, but beast! So scary!

Chilling story in poem. Great job, Nighthag! ^_^
