Caught In a Time Warp

They were the youngest couple

At the senior citizen dance

They showed them

What dancing was all about

They missed the senior trip

Cause they were all going

To go rowing

Down a lazy river

And the two of them

Went to an amusement park instead

When other couples their age

Sit inside wrapped in shawls

They’d sit on the porch

And watch the show in the sky

As the moon would play with the stars

Holding hands they’d walk

In quiet solitude

Their hearts always light and gay

Afternoon outings in the park

Stealing kisses hidden by the shade of the giant trees

Who’d think they were old

While swinging on the swings

Trying to see if they could reach the sky

They never forgot

To go out dancing once a week

It was their way of being close to one another

There wasn’t a day when they didn’t say I love you

Picnics by the river

Two crazy teenagers

Laughing and hugging and kissing

Caught in a time warp and forever young

I love this poem. I have always felt that we may age on the outside, we remain young at heart if we choose to.

Every time I see an elderly couple walking along hand in hand I smile. A life together for that many years and it is still fresh and young. I love it and look forward to having that myself with my Lady Faire! Great job!

The photo you chose definitely set the tone for the lovely poem. Love, happiness, and young at heart, what more can we ask for? I still try to do things I probably shouldn't and often have to remind my husband how old he is, but I guess that's what keeps us young ;)

Voted up, useful, awesome, and interesting.

Gypsy ~ "They never forgot"

The heart of this piece. So many move on and leave behind so much, so many do forget - you can move one and take some with you always. Sometimes it serves us, us old grown-ups, well to sit down on the grass and fiddle around in the dirt . . . to remember that time when we were so much closer to the ground. I just told one of my sons the other day ~ "To this day, your mom never enters a room that my heart doesn't jump just a little" . . . I still remember so well the first time I saw her, and so, there's a little bit of that first time every time I see her.

Hope your all having a wonderful and sunny weekend.

Glad you enjoyed this livingsta. So true love never grows old.

Glad you enjoyed this FlourishAnyway. If love is true it never gets old.

Glad you like my poetry Daisy. Nice to know this is a favorite.

Glad you enjoyed this Mr.Archer. A true love is a forever love.

Glad you enjoyed this Jamie. If you have a true love nothing is impossible and love never grows old.

Glad you enjoyed this Mary. The trick is to never think about age just to do what you enjoy. The best is when you are really enjoying yourself and then afterwards it sort of surprises you when age pops in your head and you can think wow and I can still do this and still feel this way.

Glad you enjoyed this passionate. Blessings.

Glad you enjoyed this Qudsia. Yes loving someone and staying forever young is the best there can be.

Glad to hear from you Mickey. Nice to hear you have that kind of relationship with your wife. Same here with my hubby he just has to flash a smile my way. Ain't love grand? And of course, to always be young at heart. Hope your sons find the same kind of love.

Glad you enjoyed this Deergha and thanks for the vote and share.

Glad you enjoyed this Eddy and thanks for the vote and share. So true the best combination having true love and remaining young at heart. Hugs.

Hope you're all having a wonderful and relaxing weekend.

Glad you enjoyed this DDE.

Glad you enjoyed this Leslie. Wonderful story about the elderly couple. They sound like the ones I wrote about. Thanks for the vote and share. Hugs.

Now you got me teary eyed Ed. Your brother had a wonderful relationship. I'm sure he is still constantly beside his wife in spirit and I sure hope she can find comfort in that. Take a look up into the starry spring night and I bet the first winking star you see is your brother smiling down on you. Love and hugs to you.

Glad you enjoyed this Valleypoet. It is the best we can do to stay young at heart.
