Change in Procession

By Tony DeLorger © 2014

Subtle, the glorious change,

leaves resigned to fade from life,

in a blaze of colour, rich,

golden hues in folded arms,

grasping final throws of life,

then joining nature's breath in flight,

to waste in silent death.

Fruit not long before,

bristled in plump reverie,

glistened in warmth of favour,

and yielded to hungry mouths,

sweet succulent mirth,

a dream, a sacrifice, a duty pledged,

in seed of wistful knowing.

Soon, bare of cover, gnarled creeping trunks,

lay in wait, spindly and dark sleep etched,

while frosts impose their harsh resolve,

and darkness clouds billow,

crown that desolate skeletal ground,

of winter's hold,

and sleep imposes warmer dreams.

Through pane I watch with warm heart,

the chill descend on life,

scars on greener landscapes mark,

time in the talons of sunless ilk,

and flesh turns dry, and eyes water,

and creatures withdraw to burrows deep,

to endure the coming hardship.

How I love the procession,

the transforming life in yield,

bowing to our mothers will, and the cycles,

the sharpness of truth within understanding,

ever beckoning the reason of minds,

to kiss the core of natures being,

and ride life's faultless path.

The change of procession has its share of discomfort, but it is gorgeous. Love the continual feeling of warmth in your lines.
