Cinderella ~ The Fairy Tale Fractured.

Cinderella had been to just one too many balls.

You know, parties, princes, and courtly jester's calls.

All oozing praise up and down the gilded halls.

She never saw it coming; pride before one falls.

Everything was perfect. It was all just so.

Banter quiet engaging exchanged to and froe.

Most would have fought, if she would just bestow.

They had all gathered to see it, waiting just below.

From on the balcony she looked but did not see,

was blinded by the glitz and glam, the fancy frivolity.

Waving to the crowd, coyly scanning the aristocracy

she didn’t notice the one of worth with true philosophy.

And so she made her choice, the one she thought the finest.

She never took into account that one should have kindness.

Into the future she went to become known as your highness.

Years went by and she began to feel, well, a lack of greatness.

The beautiful ones, the chosen few, the cream so to speak

are at most times in actuality, well, really rather bleak.

The simple man that at first may appear to be meek

was all along the hidden one her heart knew not to seek.

And so comes a close to this little fairytale fable.

Choose wisely boys and girls while you are still able.

Don't look to shallow values, clothes, looks and labels.

Be sure you select qualities that are more true and stable.

The classic tale of "Cinderella" was my favorite as a girl. It is a wonderful story of triumph, hope, and dreams coming true in the face of adversity. It has been and still is being remade over and over because the themes contained within address the fears, wants and desires that live in the very heart of us all.

I do not own, nor did I create the videos above. They are excerpts from Disney's classic "Cinderella."

Cheers

Thanks DzyMsLizzy... it is sad that as a nation we tend to be very shallow.

I'm sorry. I'm full of sarcasm. "Don't look to shallow values, clothes, looks and labels." You know my profile reads that my sense of humor is so vague that even I don't get it!

Dearest Epi - Thank you so much for reading such an old piece. I have missed you too. I retreat into my thoughts and mindless gaming at times of confusion or reflection and truly, while I'm not proud of it, I get down right anti-social at such times and retreat into myself. I hope all is well with you. It never ceases to amaze me that someone who can delve into the deepest pits of darkness with a pen has the heart of a saint, but you do. God bless you and happy, happy hubbing for you!

This is very interesting. When my daughter reads fairytales, I try to balance the fantasy with a certain caution. But then again, sometimes it is nice to believe....for a while! At any rate, I enjoyed reading this!

Theater girl ~ Thank you very much for reading. This is so old I had forgotten about it. I loved fairy tales as a child. Looking back now, I really wish some things about them would change, first and foremost the way females are always portrayed as either helpless or evil. God bless and happy hubbing.
