Comics Eye:Kingdom Come-The Best Graphic Novel You've Never Read!

Comics Eye- The Special Edtion for Kingdome Come

Kingdom Come Absolute Edition
Kingdom Come Absolute Edition

I 've been a reader of the Comic Book for more years than I care to think about, but to put it in perspective I'm 54 years young at the moment, and I have been the reader of this art form for more than half of my jaded years now.

There have been many comic stories over the years that have piqued my interest but there have been none that have drawn me into a story more than the story called Kingdom Come by writer Mark Waid and art provided by the incomparable Alex Ross. This is an epic tale of the retired superheroes of the DC Universe, who through a combination of apathy and just plain old age, have moved on after an unspeakable act of violence was committed by Batman's arch nemesis The Joker , and lets a new generation of heroes protect our world...these heroes include Bruce Wayne, the Batman and Kal-El / Clark Kent-Superman...and in their zealousness to protect mankind from evil this new breed of hero led by " Magog " this next generation of heroes become as much ( or even worse ) become more of a threat to mankind than the villains they are supposed to protect mankind from in the first place.

What really makes this a great story is the way it is presented, through the eyes of a minister named Norman McCay who we come to find out is a longtime friend to Wesley Dodds who is the original Sandman ( the superhero, not the master of the dream realm! ) who in this moment in time is bedridden. The nightmares that once aided Dodds' crime fighting have become disturbing, apocalyptic visions.

The other factor that makes this more than just another fan boy driven piece of drival is the art work done by the phenomenal talent of one Alex Ross.

Alex Ross is one of the ( if not the best! ) comic artists involved in the field of comics today, and his " true to life " depictions of some of our most treasured heroes are a joy to behold and his overall style of bringing these characters and other humans to life in his artwork is ( in my humble opinion ) is one of the biggest reasons why there are a lot of folks rediscovering the comic book today, and realizing that this is not your parent's old and tired comic book.

And just to prove my point, take a closer look at the picture of a finished panel featuring Captain Marvel and Superman..the picture speaks volumes!

I highly recommend this comic, and I urge you to purchase this comic in the " Absolute " format and I have provided an Amazon link to item below. There are many extras that make this edition a worthy purchase including the book is produced in the over sized volume format, and is presented in a slipcase and includes unique additional material making each Absolute Edition a cornerstone of any serious comic collection.

I have seen the art in this book and it is stunning to say the least. I am ashamed to admit I have not read the story (yet.)

Thanks for reminding me there is more out there I need to read ;)

Hey there John!

I wish that I had this in the " Absolute " edition. I've had several " Sandman " absolute editions and they were just marvelous to own.
