Conflict of Reason

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Inherent this troubling,

ceaseless affliction,

this gnawing, disarming,

righteous confliction,

that haunts my cognizant mind

every moment,

the decisions I make,

in opposition my heart sent

to confusion of belief,

the contradictions I reap,

when the play of my mind

and my heart,

in my soul seep.

I parry from one to the other

each second,

my reason so plain,

and my heart put asunder,

but guidance I plea,

for the truth is like thunder,

growling and banging,

my head going under,

for my heart's screaming lies,

and my mind just despises,

my indecisive, flailing,

my panicked surmises,

and yet...

This arbitrary treason,

this conflict of reason,

the plague of my thinking,

my boat that's now sinking,

is selling me short,

cause it thinks that I ought,

take reigns of my journey,

not drown in uncertainty,

just follow your heart,

and have faith from the start,

that reason at end,

will in reason commend,

and my soul will rest in peace.
