Corners, Kinks and Curves

C.

“Life is made up of sobs, sniffles, and smiles, with sniffles predominating.”

― O. Henry, The Gift of the Magi

O. Henry's classic quote came to mind as I mulled over my hub's title. Corners, kinks and curves seem to populate most of our lives: - emotionally, mentally and even physically at times. Perhaps we do have our choices of which predominates!

Hoop-la

Barriers - dissolve,

Vanish - space,

Banish, time.

Rhyme of life, evolve.

Revolve, profane and sacred, resolved.

Defining consciousness

By polar light -

Now day, now night,

The left, the right

Of universal love.

Inescapable,

Incapable

Of any final will

When Life, primeval

Always takes another turn.

And give it bounce.

Breath of life

Come gently now

Rock me to the rhythm

Of the spheres

Subdue all panic

Dry all tears

Fatten out the years!

The moment

Has arrived

For which I'm promised

And prepared.

I've within ~

A trine of fire ~

Desire

To be

Beginning.

A departure,

Aperture

Of one who is myself

In someone else's skin

Does not occur.

Soul unites within.

No separation

For eternity,

Will begin.

There is no problem.

Differences in travel speeds

Are infinitesimal;

Even those in flying jet

And sitting still are slight.

We travel on our planet ship

Around our star, our sun,

In its system, whirling

On the outskirts of our galaxy

In its universe moving, swelling,

Shrinking, breathing with its plan;

Knowing not where, why nor how fast.

So, even sitting still, I move.

On your shoulders

Is the ransom due

On life.

I wonder who

Collects it.

I’ve no need

To defend

That whose being

Is its own defense,

Nor desire

To defend

The indefensible.

I watch an earthworm fly

When I

Become aware of sky

And see

The relativity.

Nor do I care

Where

I am found in it.

It is.

I am.

And that’s profound enough

For me to live and be.

My tears are ecstasy!

Wow! Well done with an outstanding note! Enjoyed.

Perhaps to coalescence one's life and be aware and alert to the unity of what is, what was and what will be... always was...

To paraphrase one of your beautiful poems: And if I say you are special, Nellienna, 'it is because you are.'

And I do agree with your supposition: we almost always have a choice. We can learn to be the 'shock absorbers' as you suggest.

Thank you, Dallas. You're so correct - balancing realities of one's life and being fully cognizant of what it IS and how its elements relate together from moment to moment are essential to being at ease and in sync with it, being serene amid inevitables & avoiding futile struggles against them, effectively embracing and enjoying the many realistic possibilities & LIVING it all while passing through the unfolding NOWs. Remember the story about the pitcher always filled with water, no matter how much had been taken from it? That's the way life can and should be! It's a viable choice.

Ohgoodgrief. This is all superfluous. You already said it just right. Thank you! This is gilding the lily and may not even be the right lily.

DRBJ - m'dear. Thank you! Of course you'd agree about having a choice since you're the most clear-headed person I know on here! If we aren't the shock absorbers for ourselves, there probably aren't going to be any, at least none we can count on when we most need's. :-) To work optimally, they must be springy and soft. I guess folks sometimes try to substitute armor, which doesn't work too well, methinks.

Michael, darlin' - I love this little poem you made. It's so true. We do know why! I'm feeling a bit smug about it! :-)

I feel as if the US cavalry has just appeared on the horizon; swept down and rescued me in the nick of time.

I have really needed this hub for the last twenty-four hours. It is the Ying to my Yang, I suppose. I certainly don't harmonise with what it tells me, but it "firms me up" as Piglet has said.

I have been very Piglet, small and insignificant, all day, and now I feel better... even betterer.

Thank you, Nellieanna.

Hugs,

Ian

Dear Ian. Thank you for coming by and reassuring me of your presence.

I'm not glad that you've needed rescuing, but it happens & I'm very glad if I could help. A "Fertile Flux", I hope? I am happy and relieved that it firms you up. Piglet is such a wise litle fellow. He may be small but he's not insignificant, - nosirree! - not unless that is what's in his own head.

Here are a couple of other wise Piglet-sayings I particularly like:

"Don't underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering."

Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh!" he whispered. "Yes, Piglet?" "Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you." :-)

Grab your Pooh or Elephant and hug 'em. 'N here's one from me! - (*(*(Ian)*)*)

Once again Nellieanna you have delivered a wonderful hub with finesse and precision. For so much thought to go into each piece even to the point of encapsulating it all with an well thought out images and appropriate title. I truly love your work. I am in awe.

I'm not surprised that's among your favorites Piglet quotes, Ian! It just seems like you. How he can cram so much warmth, wisdom and philosophy into so few simple words is a miracle.

I'm enjoying the hug you sent, though it's so warm here tonight I may have to turn on the fan faster! John's on his way over to fold bulletins and watch Elizabeth I with me. He'll be able to reach the little fan chain. hehe. I have to stand on a stool and it's sort of rickety - unless I drag a little ladder in here to stand upon. More hugs. . .

Amy - What lovely comments. Nothing feels better than to relate to someone nice with one's thoughts. I was so pleased with that title when I thought of it. You lift much weight from my tired shoulders my friend with your kindness and supportive comments. I am thankful for you.

Vincent, friend - I've surely stuck the jackpot, getting your wonderful visits and comments to a couple of my hubs! You give such heart-warming encouragement.

I wrote that little poem when I was personally quite aware of that weight of ransom due; but, of course, as always, I found the writing - especially about its payment and release - literally helped and helps get it paid and hastens the arrival of lighter awarenesses. The sense of the weight when it's pressing makes the lifting all the more pleasant as it lightens when its time passes! Hugs.

YOU are special, Nellieanna. There is no-one like you. Oh, and what made me think there could be?

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 4 years ago from TEXAS Author

Dear, darling Martie. Your response feels so gratifying! Thank you for sharing it.

There's no need for anyone else to be like me. The position is filled, . . . . as are the 'selves" of each and every other person walking around.

Each is unique and wonderful! I once ran across a little book titled "You are You-nique".

How boring and tiresome it would be otherwise! But I didn't realize how unique we all are until I recognized my own uniqueness - and saw it as OK - or even better than OK. So is everyone's.

Accepting oneself is the first step to accepting others & fully appreciating each person's value and beauty. What stops up the flow is when folks doubt that and get all hung up in comparing and trying to change or "fit" some tenuous standard. The beauty is in the variety and uniqueness of each person. :-)

Lovely in so many ways Nellieanna,

It was almost like a healing balm that poured over me as I read your words. It just felt so nice, comforting, like a soft pillow a place to lay my head. I enjoyed this so.

"I’ve no need

To defend

That whose being

Is its own defense,

Nor desire

To defend

The indefensible."

This jumped out at me as I read your words and hit home. With everything there is a need to push, plow, take back, wring out, and many other take charge kind of things...it is so tiring. Peace in just letting things be, working themselves out without having to take things upon our shoulders is surly more healthy.

Thank you Nellieanna,

Love and hugs,

Sunnie

Nellieanna 4 years ago from TEXAS Author

Sunnie, I've done my share of spinning my wheels in futile attempts and efforts to change stuff which turns out to be like the sun rising - - it's going to happen regularly, my heroic efforts notwithstanding, and what became obvious is that there are surely more valuable uses and paths for my wheels! Fact is that all changes 'over there' must come from well within that direction and probably won't occur so long as there is advantage in remaining as they are and stirring my wheels to spin works to promote rather than to deter their valuable changes. If nothing else, provides "them" justification for whatever it is they're up to. The one area over which I have more control and effect is "over here". What a realization!!

Also, it's a bit like "Don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff"; - except that I notice that there ARE some situations big enough to deserve attention, more deserving it, more urgent and possibly more possible to help. But if I'm sweating the small stuff and spinning my wheels over reltatively trivial inevitables, I won't be available or to even consider dealing with those! And I also find that if I can behave myself, "that's one"! :-)

And yes - it is healthier. Anyone hoping to live long and healthy only erects major obstacles to it by stressing over and fighting all the contrary issues that arise. The supply is inexhaustible of those but one's supply of health is not.

Even some of the 'big stuff' must be allowed to work itself out, at least to suggest better solutions than those which often occur to us under stress of confrontation. Amazing: many confrontations don't occur if they fail to stir up reaction. A little time allows for more receptivity to reasonable response rather than subjective reaction (on both sides), so that they tend to mitigate themselves - or prove to be small stuff after all.

Bad news is that some irrational, impossible stuff just has to be let go and requires weighing issues with utmost clarity & scrupulous self-honesty, which often reveals its truth and a solution without the stress and strain otherwise spent in wheel-spinning, health-badgering and profuse sweating. At least all that can be directed at one's own tendencies to be subjective and irrational! :-) And useful energy can go into solution-seeking rather than one-upping the other side.

These above lines express my personal faith, especially the last four words:

Soul unites within.

No separation

For eternity,

Will begin.

There is no problem.

Thank you, dear Sunnie, for a sparkling and inspiring comment. Hugs and love to you and yours.

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 4 years ago from TEXAS Author

Dallas, - thanks for a great suggestion. I just may do that (after I've mailed in my taxes. - er - and after I've done them! hehe - Obviously I'm procrastinating as we speak!)

Watch for it! I won't procrastinate that!

dallas93444 profile image

I look forward to your sharing your "strawberry patches." Perhaps life is a series of strawberry patches? One must use caution to not allow too much sun, too much water, too much fertilizer, too much "TLC" and yet one must know how much of the above elements must be applied, and when... Perhaps the timing of knowing when to act and how to act/apply above "facets" overrides everything else?

The knowing of being alert and aware of what our "strawberry patches require are dynamic...

We are all "diamonds" reflecting our facets of life's experiences...

Perhaps our strawberry patches provide the process for our life's facets to be planted, nurtured and harvested.

Our unique "facets" provides our individual brilliance...

Dear, dear Dallas! You sound like a man of experience with the subject. Your comments about it are mind-expanding, and surely more esoteric than my perspective, whose basic mundanity any mom of young teens would key into. But there may be some high-minded moments in my strawberry patch, too. I'll reserve more about it for the hub. Meantime I'll let your thoughts leaven the lump! (wink) After all, since it was about 45 years ago, that ought to permit some lee-way with the facts.

Also it may explain my loose leeway with timing & procrastination. . . .
