Crab-bodacious Shrimp Feast.

Perched on a sling back chair

mere feet...two to be exact

from the salt splash of the surf on turf

enjoying a more creative way

to dispose of some defrosted shrimp bait,

Tempting the dozens of shy sand crabs from

the pockmarked navels of the beach.

Chuckling as they scurry on vertical tipped claws

horizontally at the speed of delight,

to snatch the shrimp tossed.

Oh, how their crabbiness becomes apparent,

as I set them to war over some leftover fish-food.

but I being a fair god of their latest bounty

toss each delectable morsel in such a way

so that even the tiniest of sand crabs

nabs a juicy bit of meat that is anything but

shrimpy to them.

All decked out in their little white gloved claws

like some formal dining affair

plucking and suckling tidbits of semi-frozen

shrimpsicles in between defending their prize.

Oh, what a line dance they staged

zigging and zagging in front of my canvas throne,

thier beady black eyes locked on my right hand

which emptied two full bags of plump chum

to their very doors where many disappeared

dragging their booty below.

Soon the bags of bait were emptied

and many sated sand crabs

lay bloated in their suddenly too small holes

and so I headed off to my own hole in the wall

to suckle some frozen nectar

and catch a little air cooled nap

away from he blazing sun.

This definitely has me thinking of the crabs along the foreshore - so decriptive - now if I can just find some not tarnished with oil :(

Great piece...Everything I seem to read from you just flows effortless. I love your voice and the relaxed command you convey in every single musing. Such vivid imagery in this little poem...I need the beach...quick.
