Crystal Lanterns

Now is eternal,

I agree with Greg, the avatar of you is beautiful, goes perfectly with this hub on crystals. The Zen poem is one of my favs, and the blue, blue crystal is awesome. I like to bask in the beauty of your hubs in the evening.

Rated up and beautiful!

Someone sweet whose name or ID is missing from the lovely comment: Thank you! I should be able to figure out who you are by your comments and I have a pretty good idea, but I do not like to presume! I hope you will come forward and relieve my curiosity!

AHA - I should have read the second post. See, I focus solely on the person I'm communicating with at the time! :-) Thanks, VS, for the lovely compliments and for rescuing me! Hugs!

ps, VioletSun - that blue mineral crystal is Cavansite. If you want to be blown away - go to Google and look up images of it. Incredibly beautiful stuff!

Thank you for the nice compliment to the profile pic. It was taken in 2006. when I was a mere youngster of 74 and was still Loving Care-ing my hair, which has been turning gray since my mid-30s. (Now I'm platinum blonde naturally! hehe)

What I like about these pictures here is their crispness. I love spring but it has a somewhat messy feeling, with all the bursting growth and wind to scatter everything around. (and my house's dire need for spring-cleaning!) So the clean, clear black and white with the bright blue really suited my heart. Glad you liked them too!

Holy. . . Interesting observance. I think this life is meant to be a holy one, (in a less constricted sense than often connoted by the word) - - certainly, a whole-y one. :-) It's in our beings. You're so dear, Martie.

Exquisite yet simple words that burst forth in the mind, the heart, and the senses.

My favorite:

"The ultimate summit

Is where,

When you finally reach it,

You can’t stay.

But descent

Is not the same

As never reaching it.

Like a high-tide mark,

It stays upon your soul."

For you are not alone.

I ADOOOOORE YOUR POETRY! :-)

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

Thank you, Genna! The finest designers and artists rely on dynamic simplicity, don't they? Mine is not intentional - it's just the way poetry comes out of me, in contrast with my "too-muchness" prose. haha. I've joked and mentioned that is how I know which is which. The poetry is clean and pretty clear, while the prose is ponderous, verbose and complicated. I do work on that, though. I don't prefer to read prose like that myself - so I try to think more as a poet. :-) But then it comes out as poetry! What's girl to do?

I really love that one you called your favorite, too. It really is so. Fame is fickle. But having known one has ascended to a place in one's work or life which has real merit is gratifying, even though it means reentry into the challenges.

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

Dear Merlin - OH - that is a wonderful video to hear while reading this! I've always led him - he got his start singing for shows at "The Six Flags Of Texas" amusement park between Dallas and Ft. Worth, you know. I love the lilt to his music. It has a country feel without being redneck country. It seems to come from the Earth. The photos on the video are breathtaking too - so much about them which speaks to me and my own country roots. Just wonderful. I'm saving it to relish again and again. It fits the hub here but I chose the one I posted because it fit my senses about it -- with a kind of crystal clarity of style and message. I really like this singer's delivery too. But the JD one is another fitting one, fitting other aspects, among that one you mention - it's uplifting quality! -d Thank you!

And of course - thank you for the compliments to my poetry. I am pleased if it makes your day better! You are most welcome to come here any time! It's the least I can do for your gracious tolerance of my ranting on your rant hubs! hehe. Hugs.

Just had to stop in again and say that I agree with you on the simple words; they can convey such magic and profound thought...like yours. :)

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

Genna - thank you for returning! Another advantage is that they are more inviting. Much words require a commitment to the subject being written about and oftentimes people just don't have time for or interest in lengthy discourses. If I get into them, I am usually sad when they end, but I confess that a long article can be a little overwhelming on first sight.

My background/training is in fashion design, where knowing when it is "enough" is so urgent. When I was a teen, my bossy eldest sister used to be so critical if I added that "one more thing" to an otherwise simple and sufficient outfit. I resented it - hehe - but it was such valuable criticism. And in such cases, it is so much a matter of taste and fine-tuned discrimination.

I admit that at times, putting together these hubs requires a lot of focus, though the poetry really just flows easily. But when I write it, I write it by hand - which provides a kind of easy empty space which is never quite duplicable on a typed page - and in Hubs, the capsules allow just so much leeway. So I have to depend on my visual and intuitive resources in assembling a poetry hub. Occasionally I start one and scrap it, if it just feels cluttered, fragmented or otherwise misses the mark. I think one reason I never tried before to transcribe my poetry to typed pages or screens was just that. It immediately demands attention to preserve that simplicity and sense of space and freedom. It is not something to be trained in, but seems to need to arise like the poetry itself, though it requires more focused thought.

I can not tell you how I feel after reading this twice, but, I will tell you why. I wrote a poem about 8 years ago entitled, "you are home to me" It was my favorite and the words "you are home to me" always make me cry a little. And so I will. Nellieanna, congratulations on a year at hubpages and another gorgeous hub. When I reach your page, I can feel my heart slow down a beat and my breathing just calms my soul, I know that what awaits is an adventure through which I just soak in all you have to say. And the beauty you have here with the crystals, shapes, light and word play just soothes me into an almost hypnotic state where I just want to memorize the wisdom and feel the love. I did feel the cleansing too. Love and peace, my friend. Voted up and beautiful.

Erin - it does my heart much good to hear that this soothes and calms yours in any way. I am so aware of how valuable that can be for you. Thank you for letting me know it and for the votes, of course, though what matters and pleases me most is that it pleased you! That inspires me greatly.

Thank you also for the congratulations on my year here! It's hard to believe it's been 12 months since Merlin suggest I come here and see what it is all about, it's flown so swifly! And to think that I was reluctant to commit to any of it, even slightly! haha! I just figured it would be stuffy or snobby or something. But the warmth and genuine friendliness and encouragement from my first new friend, who was our De Greek, and then so many other wonderful and talented folks has turned out to be the opposite of those fears! It's been among the most fun and fulfilling adventures of my online experience - of which I celebrated a 14- year anniversary in early January! :-)

First let me commend you on your beautiful avatar, you are strikingly beautiful with your mischievous grin. I truly loved these exciting crystal pictures and your Diana Krall video, I truly enjoy her music. I loved all your verses, but this is my favorite.

"If I fall in love again ... It may be ... Within your shadow. . . It is lighter there ... Than any place I know."

I am so stunned by your descriptive verse, I feel you each time I read and the time in your life the feeling you had when you scribed them, some are raw feelings and others are simply majestically beautiful. Hugs

Thank you, - though I confess I was only 74 when I snapped that shot! Main difference is that I stopped adding a blonde rinse to my hair and maybe added a new wrinkle or two. ;-> Same mischief, for sure!

Your comments and compliments are like poetry themselves, Ken. I don't want to alarm you, though, when I mention that I still write and some of the poetry I post is recently written about feelings recently felt! Hello again ma'am.

Well, to start with it is hard for me to imagine that you are almost 80 years old. Your poems are so youthful, energetic, consuming and moving; all four at once.

If you wouldn't have mentioned it in your profile or if you remove your pic, i think no one would take you to be older than a woman in late twenties...i actually mean that.

If I fall in love again

It may be

Within your shadow.

It is lighter there

Than any place I know.

Believe it or not, these lines made my day. You are like a sorcerer with words. Glad to have a friend like you...

Cheers,

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

I have to smile. I started online when I was about 65 and was accused of being a 22-year old with a "thing" for older men, since I joined a chartroom of my peers. LOL. I can only say that attitude counts. I know I'm my "age" but I feel very much alive and tuned in, so - what can I say? 79 is full of life! And maybe living to be 150 is not so incomprehensible, huh? I fully intend to be 100 and still going strong.

And I'm not trying to "be younger" - I just like to BE, know what I mean?

No reason not to!

I appreciate your very wonderful comments! Thank you! (make it "sorceress", though! hehe)

raghavrathi profile image

raghavrathi 5 years ago from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.

Oh sorry, my mistake.....sorceress it is.... :-P

Yes, attitude counts a lot. I have my grandfather as an example. He is about to turn 76 and still he is very active, just like the old days.

You are what you think you are.

Age only matters so long the body is concerned. It does not affect your soul in anyways.

Cheers ,

Raghav.

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 5 years ago from TEXAS Author

What a sweetheart you are! Thank you!

Good for your grandfather! It is largely attitude but bodies reflect our treatment of them over the years, too. Being healthy and active in mind and body is seldom just by accident. What we put "in there" - and how we nourish and treat them truly matter. It becomes part of who we are and a major factor in a really good life worth living well.

You are so right, of course, that the soul is relatively unaffected, although attitudes pave its way toward helping or hindering. Challenges come to everyone and we choose how to respond, either to complicate or to enhance our paths. These responses become habits and accumulate to tell the tale. The older one gets, the greater the accumulation, for better or worse, though it is never too late to make it better. I'll bet your grandfather would agree.

Hugs!
