The place was desolated

She knew it was her mistake

To succumb to the calls of nature

Now lost in the wilderness! Her sanity at stake!

Unruly, cragged, grass beneath her

Cold, despairing! When eve

Had been so pleasant, alluring

Such a state, could she not conceive

No human soul anywhere, dead silence!

Save the voices in her head

Amidst the wasted moon, swallowed by darkness

She half-wished she were dead

She dared not make a sound

Though her heart pounded deafeningly loud

A sudden faith gripped her

A whispered prayer, she said

A peaceful calm filled her

As her heart turned mellow

Over the distance, a vague form

Seemed to melt her terror to tallow

It was far off from her

Yes! He carried a lantern

Oh! Why wouldn’t he reach her

For the void betwixt, prevailed, then

She couldn’t explain why

She trusted him so much,

He wouldn’t stop, call as she might

Nor speak! Yet he had a beckoning touch

Yet some restraint kept them away

He seemed to speak inside her

“Do not fear! I will lead the way”

She reached home, calling out, “Sir”

“Thank you for guiding me home”

He turned, she gasped

Twas her Lord, He smiled, as He

Vanished, a word more, could she not say
