Days Gone By Bringing A Smile.
It was a beautiful summer's day on July 18th 1977....................
That's all Shana could hear in the midst of deep pains was
"C'mon sweetie PUSH !!!"
"One more there we are !""You are coming along brilliantly!!"
Shona was only 17 years old and at that point she had never felt so alone!!
"There we are sweetie I can see the head!!!!"
"Come now one big final push!!!"
Shana found the strength from somewhere and with a big deep breath she pushed for all she was worth!!!
She pushed with all her might and oh how wonderful it was to feel her baby being born!!
To hear that cry from her treasured baby was something she would never forget!!
"It's a little boy sweetie !" The midwife wrapped her baby in a blanket and handed him to Mum.
He looked up into Shana's eyes and the new Mum felt a wondrous sensation from the depth of her being.
She knew exactly what those women said when they spoke about bonding with their babies.
"It's just you and me now baby Bobby Joe and I promise to do my very best for you!!!"
The midwife looked on as she tidied up knowing she would never forget this touching moment !!!!
Bobby Joe Andresson came into the world weighing 8lb 8oz with brown hair and those beautiful blue eyes!!!
How I love you
Forever and a day
A rush of true love from my heart
That so sweet love so unconditional
My emotions full of beauty
Each heartbeat so happy
My love is yours
For the next two weeks to come Shana couldn't look back at the day when Bobby Joe came into the world without still feeling that rush of wondrous love!!!
This morning Shana sat on the steps of her caravan knitting some little bootees for her son.
The baby slept in his pram nearby and Shana had never felt happier.
Their caravan was so very basic to say the least;there was no running water;Shona had to walk to the cowshed to fill her two buckets .
Then she would fill her 4 gallon boiler before lifting it onto the gas ring and when it was hot enough she proceeded to wash their clothes before hanging them out to dry on the washing line nearby!!!
There was a gas oven but one good thing was that there was electricity wired up.
Mrs.Davies her landlady had given her a television set which they no longer used ; she'd managed to buy some cheap but bright material which she made into curtains with an old sewing machine she'd had for years .. It may have been old but still worked brilliantly.
She had also made matching covers for the settee; there was also another armchair in the corner of the room.
The room had been painted in a shade of spring day green.
In the kitchen there was a small table with two stools,a cabinet and a gas cooker.Shona had painted the walls yellow and it looked so homely and bright!
There was a bedroom at the far end but it was damp so Shana used the bed settee in the front room with Bobby Joe in his cradle by her side.
To many the caravan would have been a hovel but to Shana it was a palace ;hers and her son's haven, a place of their very own.
From day one he was a brilliant baby;so happy and so contented.
Shana was breast feeding him and as long as his tummy was full , his nappy clean he would sleep through to the next feed.
Shana finished knitting the bootees and went indoors to check on the Apple Crumble she'd made earlier.
She then went round the side of the caravan where there were a line full of terry towelling nappies blowing in the summer breeze. Her heart was full of a deep pride as she looked at them. As white as snow and as soft as velvet.
Bobby Joe's cry intruded into her thoughts and so lovingly and tender did she lifted him up into her arms.
She rested her cheek against his which was as soft as ever and oh how she loved that sweet baby smell !!
To Shona now it seemed that Bobby had been with her forever ; she felt a feeling of deep emotion deeper than she had ever felt before!!!
After changing his nappy she settled him to her breast and he guzzled away hungrily. Both hearts and eyes made a tender connection; a connection to cherish forevermore!!!!
Acrostic;My Baby Boy.
My Baby Boy
You are my all
Before you came I lived as a chameleon
Altering my self to new surroundings
Bobby Joe I love you so
Your life and love so wondrously tender
Bobby Joe my love I give
Over each obstacle we will fly
Yes my baby boy I love you so.
Heart bonding with another
