Defeated by Solitude..........

In truth I feel like one of them
just one
The barren forest canopy above
the hard
frozen ground below
and me
Between it all
cobalt sky filtered by
a million small branches dancing between
I am not even going to think
right now ......only feel
And by feel alone I will become
as they are
The touching of branches between limbs
as they rattle away unleaved
once again
Yes I say out loud
I know how you feel
naked
to the bark
no leaves to cushion this grinding
wind
And what a wind it is
howling away as does
a lone wolf
I know that wolf well though
We have become friends
The wind
the grey branches
the howling
and I

One must close their eyes, and feel this poem. Well written!

ahorseback, this is a classic write. The lines, the words, the emotions, the pain and loneliness all combine to create a painful beauty.

There's nothing more barren or lonely than a naked tree in the frigid depths of winter's cold hands.

Beautiful work!

Are you really a naked tree? We love being alone, you and I. Not many are comfortable with solitude though huh? Love you dad...and put some leaves on for crying out loud!)

'We have become friends, the wind, the grey branches, the howling, and I' -- Goosebumps here-just beautiful.

I've been neglectful in reading your wonderful work, and I see a sample of what I have been missing. I don't remember if you have a poetry collection published? If not, why not? Rated it up

A beautiful but poignant poem, stark loneliness and solitude. Very fitting in a forest of naked winter trees

This is a beautiful poem! The last lines touched me, where you become friends with branches, the wind and howling... By the way, I had left a comment about two days ago and saw it in your hub after I posted it, actually went back and edited a sentence. Wonder if there is a glitch with Hubpages as it dissappeared.

I reappeared! Yippee. This is weird, Ed, last night my comments were not here. Wonder if it's my computer. Oh, well. LOL. My Phil is doing good, thanks for asking. :) Always calm, working in home remodeling so we can pay off business debt, but life is good, thank God.

This was me for many years -

"The wind

the grey branches

the howling

and I"

Sometimes I wish I was still there in the forest of solitude. Though I am happy, I often feel chained to them who don't allow me to go back.

Hi Martie Coetser, Solitude in itself isn't a bad thing .....I guess its how much of it we need !....Its okay to seek it in healthy amounts !Lol......:-}

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Every individual needs to be alone from time to time. Maintaining the balance is healthy. Too much of anything is unhealthy and will drive one crazy. Thanks for your insightful reply on my comment.
