Poem: Difference between "Like" and "Love"

Source

The day was stupendously inky

On the last day of July,

I gingerly stepped in the garden,

And my eyes feasted on the Stratus sky;

Soon the squashy Clouds,

Poured vitreous globules of mist,

And a wispy drizzle altruistically fell on my eye,

Ask not what an Ecstasy I felt!

O how this parched Soul pined for Rhapsody!

Then a beam of Light

Coruscated in front of me,

Illuminated by its Grace,

My heart Glowed like a midday Sun;

I then pirouetted on the damped grass,

As if mists from the river

Eddy around the banks,

Ah! Leaves swirled and kissed the trees,

And clouds frolicked drums in Sky –

Pitter-patter and thunderous beats

Chimed in cadence from the East;

Soon my face was wholly bathed,

Arms wide-opened for a Celestial gate;

Together we crooned – Heavenly and Euphoric,

When suddenly I fathomed something historic;

There was a Rose resting alone –

Full bloom on the dewy grass;

Oh! I had palanquins of moments in words,

Perfumed words for such Beauty,

I yearned to pluck it,

Yet something ceased my gentle fingers;

I dwelled too much on “Love” and “Like”

Then Socrates rang in my mind,

When ‘Alexander the Great’ had a doubt,

Socrates enlightened with a humble Heart,

That, “When you like a flower, you pluck it really,

But when you Love a flower, you water it daily

My thoughts all became rhetoric for Rose,

I simply smiled when “Love” I chose.

Ask not what an Ecstasy I felt!

O how this parched Soul pined for Rhapsody!

Such beautiful images you have created with your words!

I loved the message towards the end. Love is meant to nurture and not to destroy.
