Difference, the Seed of Possibility

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Irreverent stares accompany the internal disdain,

for difference holds the seed of fear and mistrust,

ever narrowed by conditioning and the bias of our creed.

Illustrious gilded words of faith and propriety

accompany the prejudice, the grimace behind the smile.

Two-faced we wear the mask of civility

and look down our nose with self-righteous condemnation,

embellished by ego’s need for superiority.

How then do we scorn other’s prejudice toward us?

Their innate contempt for our colour, belief or position

a travesty beyond which we will not concede.

If then, we are all slaves to our beliefs and bias,

how can anyone win an inexhaustible, endless contention?

The answer is no-one can.

We wage a war of no end, against ourselves,

and strike all that is within each of us as foreign.

Man against man, self against self, world against world.

We are all fragments of the one humanity,

vying for a peaceful life, our own paradise,

when paradise is within our potential, beyond the base fears

and the ineptitude of our primitive selves.

Judgement is based on a scale of acceptability,

with no dimension or understanding.

I pray that one day difference is an attribute of love.

'Man against man, self against self, world against world.'

'I pray that one day difference is an attribute of love.'

Both of those lines are really powerful and honest.

The way you write and construct sentences is original and amazing. I look forward to reading more of your work.
