Don't Call Me "Kiddo"
a poem about pet names
Don’t Call Me “Kiddo”
I’ve noticed a verbal faux pas of late,
I’m reasonably sure it’s something I hate.
Of all the pet names that could possibly be uttered,
this is the one that you shouldn’t have muttered.
Back in the day, when I was a child,
parents opened their mouths and it seemed quite mild.
Then as a teen, it still was ok,
It didn’t bother me on any given day.
But the years have flown by, although time has been kind,
I’m getting to the point where I really do mind.
The reference is “kiddo” and it grates on my nerves,
So please pay attention; I’m a woman with curves!
