Don't Leave Me In The Summer Time

Don't leave me in the Summertime

When the yellow rose bloom and shine

When birds soar high to claim the sky

No time to speak of last goodbye

In Summer sun, our hearts attune

To beauty; we're never immune

Don't leave me in this Summer bright

Bereft of hope, we'll douse the light

When Autumn sun deserts the sky

Torrential rain the tears I'll cry

When birds to south horizon flown

Loneliness claims me for it's own

Leave me when the Autumn leaves fall

When chill of death begins the call

When Sea of gold cascades and drift

Let's make the fall our parting gift

Don't leave me when the Winter comes

Only ice will fill the vast chasm

For when the snow lay crisp and deep

Succumb I must to dreamless sleep

Remember how first breath of spring

Breathe life for blossoming to begin-

Beside the brook a kiss we took

To the kaah of a nesting rook

I beg you, stay till spring has sprung

When blackbirds and robins have sung

When the newborn lambs jump and leap

Never again will my heart weep.

This poem is so very beautifully romantic, wistful, and bitter-sweet all at the same time. And the pictures are stunning, too!

Lurana, after I read the first comment, I just had to take a look at the lyrics of the song, and as you so rightly said, the theme were similar but the work was still very different. I have to admit, I felt quiet honored. :)

So glad you enjoyed the poem.

Sigh..of course - leave me in the autumn...

my favorite season is summer, and yet - my birthday 'falls' on the first day of autumn..it's been irksome my entire life - that MY birthday ushers in what i consider to be 'the season of death'!

lol...no one can argue that it isn't - no matter how 'pretty' death may be..

LOL..

love ya Jo! So glad you found my new home at Blogger! It's doing better in 2 months there than in 14 months here...

sharing, pinning, lovingxx

Beautiful just to say the least. This is one of your best poems. The photos are spectacular. My favorite rose is and has always been red because it symbolizes love, passion and courage. I like the yellow ones too because it represents joy, happiness and friendship. And the blue of course because it's symbolic of the impossible or unattainable. voted up my friend. I hope that you're having a nice weekend. doc.

Hi Wetnose, I love yellow roses also, but each colour can have several meaning, friendship is the primary meaning of the yellow rose, however in Germanic countries, the yellow rose is used to represent jealousy. Thank you for stopping by, always appreciated.

wetnosedogs profile image

Splendid and your photos are awesome.

I do have a question. I like yellow roses, but how did jealousy get in the mix of meanings? I almost didn't pick it cause of that, but I still love the yellow rose.
