Dreams and Stardust

He kept being haunted

By a recurring dream

One in which she returned

Never meant to say good-bye

Bringing with her the sunshine

That went away the day

She walked out the door

Just when he heard her call his name

That was the moment he awoke

To another ordinary day

One without her in it

Often he wondered

If he kept dreaming

Because she was missing him

Thinking of him

But then he shook his head

Coming back down from the clouds

Back to reality

As he worked he thought of her

Through the day and home again

Every phone call

Every knock on the door

His friends would shake their heads

He had it and he had it so bad

Time and time again

They told him to lock her out of his heart

But if he had built his world around her

If she had knocked those walls down

Crept into his heart

He couldn’t just forget her

Not now when those dream

Always brought her back

Night after night

He awoke in a sweat

Still thinking she was there

Still thinking that she cared

On a particularly stormy night

With aching heart he lay down

Just waiting for her to come

To come in his dreams

Just to float him away

Then as he was drifting

Between reality and the world of dreams

He was jarred awake

By the phone and all he wanted

Was to keep flying to the clouds above

The call sure stunned him

He didn’t see it coming

It was her sister

She’d finally found his number

She cried as she told him

That Janie had had an accident

She lay in a coma

Ever so often from somewhere

So deep within her

She would call out his name

So it was that his dream

Became a reality

She wanted, needed him

And he flew to her side

He visualized her like a sleeping beauty

Lying so very still

Her skin like marble

She seemed more sculpted than real

That night he stayed by her side

He heard her call his name

But he couldn’t reach her

He laid his head back

Just looking at her

Wanting to hold her

Wishing she would open her eyes

Somewhere real late he drifted

And the dream came again

This time she was holding out her hand

Telling him she was sorry

Telling him that she loved him

When he heard her calling his name

He came awake

And her blue eyes were watching him

She spoke his name again

And he was beside her

They both cried

From sheer happiness

Nothing from the past mattered anymore

The dream had become a reality

The future was ahead

The miracle he had hoped for

Had occurred

She was still his

Loved him still

Making his heart sing

As he held her hand

They looked at one another

Together they said

I love you

Awesome and powerful and voted up. This one touched me the most. I am not saying that it's your best, but it really touched me. So much beauty here. It's a real dream come true, and most dreams with longing are very wonderful and enchanting ones. This one has a special place in my heart.

Have a great Sunday, my Friend.

Rasma, what a beautiful story! She was calling out to him for real from the depths of her coma. Thank goodness they found each other again. Awesome!

So nice to read artfully chosen words other than a gathering of facts and advice, especially early on a Sunday morning.
