Drugs Took Center Stage
She showed no fears,
when they told her about
the dead old man
at the foot of the stairs,
she had bruises on her head,
and she couldn’t explain her nudity
or the nested clothes
at the bottom of her bed,
then there was a small child
sitting in the corner of the room,
she was all nervous and wild eyed,
she cried and cried,
her teeth would chatter,,
as the detective asked her
what was the matter,
she opened her legs in an odd way,
pointed down,
and that was all she needed to say,
drugs played a part that day,
she sold her daughter to someone so giving,
and she considered that
the only way to make a living,
she started that day off by
wanting to sell herself,
but the old man was looking
for that prize
sitting on the top shelf,
she was underage,
the detective felt the rage,
and in the house,
drugs took the center stage.
