Eman al-Obeidy

Eman al-Obeidy

You are on my mind

Tear stained cheeks

Fists clenched tight

Bubbling screaming

Rage erupting

Flowing over mothers

Sisters and aunts

Fathers and brothers

Stung by drops

They are coming

To get you

Eman al-Obeidy

Waitresses and bell boys

News guy gets punched

Grab your arms

Hold you tight

Fury is strong

There is no fear

Lose their grip

Stumble in confusion

Get you again

It takes ten men

To put a bag on your head

Shove you in a car

Speed away

Rage and strength

In me and you

Twitter and blog

Watch CNN

Where did you go

Eman al-Obeidy?

I saw Eben Al-Obeidy's story on the news and have wondered what happened to her. I wept for her then and I weep now when I think of the thousands of nameless victims of atrocities like this! The evil perpetrators of brave people like Eben Al-Obeidy should be stopped, but when they are, they become martyrs to their own twisted, horrific cause. Your poetry is moving , yet shocking.....but SUCH an important reminder that we should all be taking care of one another. (I'll bet this story never aired on Fox News -- I'm just sayin'.)

It's incumbent on us all (particularly women) to fight this kind of oppression. If enough of us rise up and say "no", we might have an impact -- someday.

(I'm heartened to know that you don't watch Fox.)
