July in the evening..........

For Dougie ....

I walked outside a few minutes ago
and even now I remember
From ions ago a certain scent
surrounded and tinged
but by lonliness
The combining of fresh mown pastures
of burnt and humid july air and
just as the
wild weeds along the country road
cowvetch
unmown lawns
crab apple blossoms
And the sickening cover scent of
a funeral parlor
Where unmentionable mercies
performed on
a childs body
To make them appear
angelic once again
Just a wafting scent of july
nights and the natural
wilting of summer heat on nature
retreived in kind
by this sense of
loss

A feeble attempt to put words to a long silenced childs memory and the reminders of another time , another day and a young mind too young to understand ....then or now .

July is walking past, in a day it will be gone for one year, but after reading this beautiful poem, I want more of this July.

To put the words down may make the memory clear and solid in its distant sadness.

best from jandee

Wow ....I think I am speechless and that seldom happens. Incredible and vivid nature imagery - you have indeed captured July. What a lovely and moving tribute to your lost brother. I cannot say it better that jandee did.

I am sorry for your loss and I do understand fully how scents and smells take us back. Blessings. ~~~Theresa

Hi Phdast , we are sometimes a slave to these senses ,be they scent , sights or sounds that trigger such vivid memories of emotional times in our lives . Perhaps a sixth or seventh sense that lets us know other things , no ?
