Endeavor to Pleasure
Click here to hear me read this poem.
today I will endeavor to pleasure, me
my own happiness takes precedence
as I make joy my selfish intention
I will seek gratification without guilt or trepidation
and refuse to sleep until I’ve been enraptured
today I will invite my daydreams home for tea
fatten them up on tiny sandwiches and raisin biscuits
till they are drunk with the pleasure of my attention
and willing to whisper their secrets in my ear
just where the moxy is hidden and where the key
today I will stand naked in front of the mirror and smile
pulled from the back of my bottom most drawer
I will slip my desires on over my head
enjoy their silkiness sliding down my torso, then twirl
and let them twist tightly about me
uncaring of your appraisal, will wear them proudly
today my mind will speak its verity
I will sing to the heavens my knowing
no longer cowering beneath your judgment
nor in consideration filter the strength of my voice
but will stand in, dance in, revel in - my truth
you call before my day is under way
fearful and panicked your voice a storm
without thought I tend to your wounded spirit
moulding solutions with calm elocution
hours wrapped around the soul who needs it most
til a sigh released reveals a return to calm
and what of me?
perhaps tomorrow I will endeavor to pleasure
