Everything Will Be Alright-Poem About A Mother's Angelic Visit

Apparition of my Mother

Mother's Angelic Visit

Those first few months
felt like a blurr

The longing and pain
of missing her

She couldn't erase
the image in her head

Of Mom in a coffin
and feelings of dread

Why did you leave us
your children need you

Dad is a drunk
he won't know what to do

Night-time was lonely
without Mom around

She'd hear scary noises
that made her heart pound

She missed the routine
of being tucked in

And the maternal love
a dad couldn't give

The girl lay crying
feeling hopeless one night

She pleaded with God
to make it all right

I need you mommy
you keep me on track

Please help me Lord
can you bring her back

Down the hallway she noticed
a light moving slowly

It grew brighter and brighter
she knew it was holy

A beautiful lady
floated above her head

And eventually sat
at the edge of her bed

Looking right at the angel
she recognized her face

It was her mother
glowing with grace

She listened intently
to the message conveyed

Through telepathic means
Mom said, "don't be afraid."

I'm sorry I left you
just know I'm still here

Watching over you kids
every day, every year

I love you my baby
your four siblings too

Make sure you tell them
of my visit to you

Let them know
I tucked them in tonight

That things will get better
it will be alright

At that very moment
her spirit-body lifted

Down the hallway I watched
as she gracefully drifted.

Minnetonka Twin,

This is so absolutely beautiful and poignant. The poem itself is just amazing, truly it is. The story behind it, especially after reading the hub of yours I just read, really got me. I hope you and your big family of siblings was able to find some comfort in your mother's visits.

Simply beautiful... you really are a writer!

Wow, Linda, thank you so much for sharing of this experience. That is an amazing photo! My husband's grandfather died and before we knew he had died, I was asleep and I had a dream that his face appear real close before my eyes, and looking straight into my eyes, and he said, "See you later."

Very interesting and glad you share this.

Voted up +++ and sharing

Gole Cat~you are such a sweetheart! I am so touched you liked my poem about mom's visit to my twinner. It's amazing that I was laying right next to Laura when mom came. We shared a bedroom for many years as kids. It's obvious that the visit was not intended for both twins, just Laura, the baby. Mom knew she would share it and give us all some peace. Laura had a really hard time after mom died and I was so glad she came to give her some hope and reassurance that everything would be alright. You coming by my hubs always means a lot Cat. Like I said before, you and I are kindred spirits. P.S. thanks for sharing this my friend.

I truly believe in spirits, I have encountered two in my lifetime thus far. And angels/spirits visiting loved ones often in their bedrooms at the foot of their beds is common. I'm so happy that peace was found and you all know that your mom cares, loves and watches over you all. Your poetry was brilliant, I loved every word and verse, so beautifully expressed dear poet. Thanks so much Martin. Truth be told, I thought I'd try something different with my poem structure. I usually just type and see what it gives me. This time I tried the pre-formatted font and I just loved how it turned out. I think it's a good font for we poet's to use, especially when it's a deep topic. I am greatly honored to see you here my friend.

Dearest Faith, ~what a beautiful thing that you were visited by your husband's grandfather in a dream. I hear so many stories of loved ones coming to say goodbye in this manner. I thank you very much for your kind and thoughtful words about my poem. Mom knew her youngest needed hope and healing after her death. Death will not stop a mother from taking care of her kids. God Bless you for coming by my dear friend. Linda

Dear Vincent~wow, I am humbled that one of my favorite poet's would give me such high praise on my poem. That means so much to me my friend. I too have heard that bedside visits are common with loved ones that have passed. It's reassuring to know that loved ones are watching over us. It was especially important to my mom's five children. Laura and I were only nine years old when mom died and didn't have much of a relationship at that time with our dad. Thanks much for coming by Vincent :-)

Hi Minnetonka Twin,

What a stirring and touching poem. I'm sorry you and your siblings had to endure such an enormous loss at such a young age. This confirms that even when a loved one leaves physically, their spirit is always with us, even helping us along the way. Vey beautiful. Thank you. Voted up.

Minnetonka Twin,

That makes the story even more touching! I think these kinds of beautiful things happen all the time, but not everyone has that special sight that allows them to see it; this is the kind of seeing that's not done with the simple eyes, but with the heart. I'm so glad this has happened for your sister and I just know you must've brought her some sense of 'it'll be okay' yourself. What a wonderful family you've all been blessed with.

I hope you've had a wonderful weekend my dear!

I thought I saw my moms spirit/ghost after she died and I welcomed her but it turned out to be a calender that caught a breeze from the window lighting up as he would lift up and out. Who knows though maybe it was her lifting the calendar. Never thought I would welcome a spirit or ghost but love changes us doesn't it. Thanks for sharing your beautiful story.

Minnetonka Twin profile image

Minnetonka Twin 3 years ago from Minnesota Author

Oh my goodness Jackie~what a bummer it turned out to be the calendar. Let's just go with the notion that mom's spirit lifted the calendar so you'd think it was her. Spirits can do it however they want to. Thanks so much for reading my poem and for sharing it. I really appreciate when someone appreciates my work enough to do that. Have a great day!

Hi KKGal~It was a real blessing that mom came to my sis. It gave us all hope and strength to move forward without her. That was a very difficult time for us five siblings. We were left with a dad that we weren't as connected to because of his drinking problem. It's crazy how things work out because dad, my sis and I became very close after he sobered up.

Minnetonka Twin:

Powerful, touching tale. What is they say about a mother's love? I couldn't remember so I Googled it and found this from Edwin Hubbell Chapin:

"No language can express the power, and beauty, and heroism, and majesty of a mother's love. It shrinks not where man cowers, and grows stronger where man faints..."

And another from Oliver Wendell Holmes:

"The real religion of the world comes from women much more than from men - from mothers most of all, who carry the key of our souls in their bosoms."

My mother just turned 96, so she was in my head and my heart. She's A-L-W-A-Y-S been there. Don't know what I'll do when she passes. -TD

What a touching and heart-felt comment on my poem. I too thought I would die when I lost mom, but to lose her so young was really hard. Somehow we manage to move forward from grief of losing a parent. You are so blessed to have your mother. Thanks for the wonderful quotes on mother's. So true!

Thank you for sharing, and then sharing in poetry no less, this experience of your Mom coming to reassure you. Death is obviously a sad parting, especially for little ones who grapple with the inexplicable. But there is so much left for us to learn and explore about death and the many ways our loved ones take care of us after they leave this part of life. And one of the ways we will learn is by writers like yourself sharing this experience. THANKS AGAIN VERN and TDowling, maybe when your Mom passes, YOU can write a poem and post it here!
