February Dream

February Dream

What is it that this land has given back to “our people” for the many hundreds of years we were slaved and abused, beaten and strung up in trees? Is it the 40 acres and a mule that we never received?

What is it that this land has given back to “our people” for the blood, sweat and tears that we poured out as we ran through the woodlands with blistered feet, with no food for our babies to eat, as we dared to escape the hell that being born into this world with ebony skin and nappy hair would bring.

What is it that this land has given back to “our people” for Malcom, Martin and Medgar to loose their lives for what they believed in, stepping out on faith to make a difference for their future generations who have grown closer to destruction because they have not been properly raised.

What is it that this land has given back to “our people” for all of the souls lost to the battle of bullets and drugs that have no name but can replace ones life with darkness and pain, never to experience the joy that life can bring when we accept that we are strong, bold and created to endure the struggles of being you and me.

What is it that this land has given back to “our people” for our education, our talents, our commitment, our religion, our spirituality, and our knowledge that still to this day goes unseen.

What is it that this land has given back to “our people”……. Lost purpose, regression of hope for tomorrow, materialistic faded identities, life struggles, broken dreams and generational curses that only “our people” can break the chain to release.
