Feelings of Loss

By Tony DeLorger © 2012

How can one feel when pain envelopes a soul,

bruised and bled of life, alone,

struck down by the decimation of hope,

lost to a cruel and heartless reality.

How can one speak of life,

when all one knows has been taken,

when all we want is torn from loving embrace,

wrenched from a planned and certain future.

How can one accept when dreams are ended,

when all happiness ceases to be,

and a darkness so empty fills every thought,

crushing all motivation with perfect execution.

How do we survive the pain of change,

the loss of love's expression,

a smile seen no more,

a touch buried in memory alone.

We continue to live,

second by second, minute by minute,

knowing that the heart has a long memory,

and true love cannot die.

Life transforms in many ways,

pain, just as love is a teacher of truth,

and we, ill-equipped at times,

must walk through that door, knowing that we are where we should be.

Thanks Sheila; although we don't see it at the time, we often have to go through hardship in order to be where we should be.

Thanks whonu, glad you related. No matter how bad life can seem at the time, circumstances have a way of working out and so changes our perspective.

"When one door closes, another opens", is often very true and we are at times, better off than we were before. We do live one second, minute, day, at a time and that is the best mindset.Nice work Tony, whonu.

Beautiful and soulful words speaking of a loss we have all survived at one time or another. I too (as did Betty) found my husband only after ending a relationship that I was sad to end. Today I am so thankful to be with my perfect match. we are meant to be together - so unlike my previous relationship. As you stated - Always look forward.

Always look forward; all the answers reside in the future not the past. Thanks Betty.

You are speaking of life, very well I must say! One love ended, hopefully a better one takes its place. I was devistated at one time, then my present husband came into my life and I thank God for ending the first to make room for the man I have now..
