Fight the Power - Volume 1

Control

I am writing a series of poems about control in our lives. Society, our peers, institutions, the media and more all play major parts in controlling what we look like, how we act and even how we think. These poems will be looking at the different ways, big and small, that we can fight control in our lives.

Four Walls

They gave me a room with four walls and no doors or windows
I said it was to dark
They screwed in a light bulb
I said that I was bored
They gave me an X-Box
I said that I was lonely
They chose my friends for me

My friends were just like me
They had their own rooms with four walls and no doors or windows
From the day we are born they said we could never want more that our little rooms
They know what's best for us

I said I wanted windows so I could see the sun
They took away my light bulb
I said I wanted a door so I could go outside and see the world
They took away my X-Box
I said I wanted to be different from everyone else
My friends got mad and left

I sleep alone in my dark, empty room
I dream of no walls
And I may never find a way to leave my room behind
But at least I got to dream

I really enjoyed that. Just wish that it had a happier ending.

Thanks
