Filled with Venom

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

How filled we are with venom,

an accretion of all that’s done us wrong.

And how easily we administer it in response,

to those unlucky enough to strike that nerve.

Humanity is an enigma of purpose,

more prone to accumulate the negative,

rather than the gifts of lessons learned.

We are dangerous, even to ourselves.

Brimming with inequities, we fester,

continually on the edge of attack.

The swell of puss too malignant to contain,

is poised, always ready to unleash havoc.

When bitten, our foes limp away to heal,

And we, spent, think nothing of our bite.

We are so cruel in our venting ways,

so unfeeling to our victims.

Should we deal with this malignancy,

we would not harbour this potential.

The snake within us would take its last breath,

and we would not bare the weight of hateful action.

It is preferable to fill our void with understanding,

not the venom of iniquitous ignorance.

Thansk Apostle Jack and Hattie. It's hard not to react negatively sometimes, but being aware of our venting is the first step to overcoming it.

Yes Lovely! Agree with Apostle! I think most of the time I try not to respond back in a negative way, but there always those people that know how to push our buttons, and I'm trying very hard to have compassion for them, but fortunately you can only take it so long, and than OH! NO! I have to say something back! I think I do because I realise they are pushing there negativity on me, and I try to live a positive life. I try to get rid of the negativity. Oh well hope I achieve it gracefully at some point. lol

I agree that if we all look at ourselves first before pointing fingers it would be a better world.Judging others before we judge ourselves, is ego-tripping.
