Flickering Swamp Lights (poem)

Flickering Swamp Lights

There's a certain amount

of comfort in seeing those

house lights flicker

a few miles across the

swamp knowing they're

not alligator eyes reflecting

a shimmering moon.

Who knows how many

water moccasins there

are in spongey wetlands

in-between or how many

quick pygmy rattlesnakes

crawl on those few hummocks

of southern pines and live oaks,

but there's a certain amount

of comfort seeing those house

lights as, hopefully, ours are

a bit of comfort to them out there

until the gradual coming of dawn.

Awesome poem. I would love to be there awaiting the dawn via those flickering swamp lights. Of course I would want to be safely floating in a boat and not out there alone on foot. Voted up, Awesome, Beautiful and Interesting!

Sounds like a secluded and temperamental location to live. Be one with nature, but glad you’re not the only one. Voted up and interesting.
