Gender Bias: a Poem
Gender Bias
Hysterical,
(they said we were).
And subject to
wild mood swings.
Unpredictable, unfit for public office
(they feared).
In a fit of monthly pique
(they said)
We'd push the big red button
and end the world!
It begs the question:
Which of us speaks first
with bombs and wars??
Backstory
This poem was written in irritation following a chauvinistic remark by someone; perhaps a classmate; perhaps a professor; whose name I do not now even remember.
At the time, I was using poetry rather extensively as a therapy to blow off steam about assorted social matters.
Originally written in September of 1993, it was edited in 2010.
