Ghost soldiers verse

Abail , the son of a shoemaker from Boston
knew all about sacrifice he let his right leg in

And Josiah was a farmers boy from Vermont
he was dying from dysentery in New Jersey
he didn't know of the why's

And about Cain who used to wonder
why they named him from the bible
he lived his remaining days without his left arm

And of Samuel being carried from chair to
parlor from that war on to spend his days
sitting by the open window

And they all say one thing ......Though you pity me for all
that I have lost , do you then
know just why I went ?

For pity me not for your own sensibilities ..........I can live with a limb
but remember me and these words

Can you live without liberty ?

Profound. What grave price has been paid for that which I take for granted.

Powerful, patriotic and inspiring. In a few words of poetry you have achieved more than can be found in many hour-long speeches.

Oh thank you MsDora ! That's sweet , I feel that there's so much forgetfulness when it comes to patriotism in America . A nation moving away from it's once higher sense of pride . I don't like the feeling I'm getting from some of our younger people.
