Ghosts in the garden.........

They were all there once you know , right there by the rose bushes and over by the neighbors fence , if you look closely into the dappled tree line and then let your peripheral vision close off the rays of bright summer sun , you might still see their shadows move slowly through the bigger trees yet . Always in the thickest of vegetation , where you would perhaps never see an entire body , only the lowered head or the front half of one as they watch you . Or their rearing quarter as they move quickly away after seeing , scenting or sensing you long before you do them .

And they had honor too, they were noble in their actions , loyal in all their relationships , most adults even mated for life , something we as humans , know so little about anymore . There world was made up of mostly silence too, all of the communicating they did was some primal telepathy , a look , an occasional howl at dawn or dusk , they never wasted words , chattering away like teenagers in a teacher less classroom , They didn't have any of the habits that have failed mankind either , automobiles , airplanes , motorcycles , yes..... and the constant din of traffic . No trains , no airliners marking up the perfect cobalt blue of the skyline .

And now ?......what about now ,what about today ? What about the original plan ? What about the garden where those shadows move still , if you look even now ,if you look closely , are becoming less and less likely to be noticed , or if they are still there , do we simply chose not to acknowledge them ? These ghosts in the garden ..........I have seen too many places where there isn't even a garden anymore , the wolf though ! The wolf has seen that and much worse ! We are changing though ......there is a war on right now between the wolfs survival and mankind , the wolf now "re-introduced " is surviving once again but just on the edge , perhaps just in the shadows ? And he is being hunted again too , yes . By mankind , the very same mankind that all but obliterated the wolf in the first place .

And they knew the answers too, to questions that we as men , are only are beginning to ask now . They knew about the dangers of over populating , they new about respect and self control and the accountability of personal behaviors , they were mindful to themselves and each other , they knew how to raise their young who would then become responsible adults like themselves , They were efficient , they knew all about how to never waste a thing , to not pollute the rivers , the streams and the oceans . They had no use for factories or prisons or for things made of iron and rubber , no use for instruments of destruction like guns , leg traps or cages . No idea of the use for poisons . The simple and sad truth ? They were here once ! And if we're not careful ......They will disappear forever .

Have you seen the ghosts in your garden ?

Voted up and awsome. I just can't understand why they keep introducing the wolf back into nature then kill them off again in a few years. Wolves have been here for thousands of years and are no more a threat to ranchers. Yet, for the bounty of one ear man is hunting them once again. So sad for such a beautiful and wonderful animal. Well done. Voted up and awsome.

I love your love of wolves Ed! How can you not have such admiration for such a beautiful creature, who one wonders how they seem to have more wits about them in many things that humans do not. How can you top a wolf? Beautiful, but feared and yet respected, well to most anyway. Very touching Ed!

A haunting reminder of how things used to be and how they could yet be if we all respected the world around us and cared for our environment as we were meant to do.

So many of Earth's beloved are being driven to extinction....only because the collective we...all human kind...are too greedy to share this beautiful world with our fellow beings...there appears to be a split in those who truly want to share and those who simply don't care....which side will win this war against Nature? Neither. The most powerful force is Mother Nature herself and when she has had enough, she will kick our human ass right off her planet. I think she is getting close to doing just that....hopefully we can turn back time and put our collective actions in gear to stop the extinction. Humans are certainly the Apex predators....there is enough of everything on this Earth to provide for all...instead we spend our energy and time going to war...

How awesome it would be to actually see a wolf in the wild. They really are beautiful creatures. Sadly, though, many animals are diminishing because of man.
