A Glutton For Green

The first showers come and it’s as though a wizard with myriad shades of green on his magical palette flies by, touching everything he sees to create a green wonderland. How do you describe each shade? Can you really find a name for each and every one of them ranging from the subtlest tinge to a rich, dark hue? All you can do is to look, enjoy, wallow and drink it all in.

Green turns me on. Green fills me up and makes me whole. It’s almost as though summer were made just for this. The heat that builds up makes you thirsty for what you know is going to come. And when it does, it explodes into your vision and your soul, quenching and making you so alive. And your favourite poems bubble up from somewhere deep within to pay homage to the scene that unfolds before you.

Beautiful pictures and quotes, and presentation. Perfect images for me to view before going to sleep. My favorite is the one where Samuel Coleridge's quote is shared. I visualized myself walking up those little steps surrounded by green. Later today (as its the a.m., here in Oregon) my s/o and I will be going to our cabin in the forest do clean up after guests who rent our cabin check, but we will be sorrounded by green and cascading rivers. :)

Have bookmarked this hub - the energy here is pleasant.

Thanks Snehal - I so agree with you. There's nothing quite like the fresh smell of wet earth after a shower. I love it too and I can never have enough of it!

Hi VioletSun - thank you! I'm so glad you liked that picture - it's a little resort close by that my husband and I went to for our anniversary. It's so beautiful and green in the rains - if ever you're here, we'll take you there :) Here's to a green getaway for you both in your forest cabin!

Fabulous photos Shalini. I like the Shakespeare quote, particularly the line about finding good in everything. From my window I can see the sunlight filtering through the foilage on the trees and shrubs and I long to be mixing some greens right now. Thank you for the inspiration!

dinkan53 - I appreciate it.

Hi McHamlet - a friend just told me there was nothing as uplifting as girlfriend tonic - I think green tonic comes pretty close! Ah, yes, the Irish and their green except when it comes to their geensai gorm :D

Hey Vibha - yes, especially all those trees in your home :)

De Greek - you're welcome, any time :)

Hi Nell - thanks so much - appreciate it!

billy - Pune - yes, Goa is green and beautiful but I think we have many more shades of greens once the rains come :) Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love Goa too especially the sea!

Hi,Shalini Kagal, as a fellow follower of nature I admire the work of this hub. The forty shades of green The famous Irish song sums up how many shades there are. Beautiful hub with beautiful photographs.

Looking at green objects, especially foliage, is supposed to be good for the eyes. It is also a very refreshing color to look at. The pictures you have selected are nice too. Thanks Shal. :)

I LOVE this! I grew up where there was scant rainfall. The countryside is not green, except in the town where I was born, which is watered by a continuous spring gurgling up thousands of gallons of water daily and creating an oasis in the semi-desert. As a child, I truly thought heaven was a green place! Now you show us this heavenly green place you call home!!

Of course the poetry and illustrations for it are wonderful too. I loved it all, Shalini!

Hi D.A.L. - thank you - coming from you, that's a great compliment :)

quicksand, my friend - maybe there's too much of a good thing? My eyes they are a-getting bad :D Thanks for dropping in - always a pleasure to see you!

Nellieanna - oh it's hot (and brown!) during summer - April and May see temperatures that soar over 40 C. But after that, there's 3 months of rain which just turns the brown to green overnight and it's beautiful all around. Thanks so much for reading!

Freya - so glad you liked it - thanks!

SilverGenes - ah yes, for the eyes and the soul. Thanks for coming by!

So soothing and lovely. I like the green birds too. I'm in New York City where the last few days we have been in a serious heatwave and it has been over 100 degrees - yikes! We've been advised to stay indoors!

These photos have calmed me down. Mmmmmm.

Thanks for all of them. Whew!

Hi Sally's Trove - thanks - yes, it's a great sight and the rhythm gets you too!

Green Lotus - thanks for reading. We have around ten of them that have made our trees their home :)

BkCreative - we had that up to little over a month ago. Strange how one forgets the heat when the rain comes down! Thanks for stopping by!

Beauty in green at it's finest. I loved the rushing water falls flowing down beside the train as it passes over the bridge. Even a green bird to match it's background. How lush, fresh and tropical. I could almost feel the heat and moisture all at once. Smell the tropical plants and trees. What a wonderful journey of photography you took me on. Thank you for the share, I would love to be on that train. Peace and hugs.

This is too funny! It is so similar to my idea that it is almost strange, isn't it, haha. Did you take these photos? They are stunning. I also love green, but blue was on my mind that particular day! Have a lovely green summer, Shalini. I have missed your observations for a while now... PS Did you know green is the color most often representing the heart chakra? This suits you!

Shalini Kagal profile image

Shalini Kagal 6 years ago from India Author

Hi saddlerider1 - I've been on that train only once but the journey during the rains is breathtaking! For just these three months, all the hills around us have waterfalls and yes, it's wonderful. Thanks for reading!

Story - isn't it just? thanks so much - yes, if it's the heart chakra, that's the way I'm feeling now. Sorry - been busy with our daughter's admissions and it's wonderful she's got into a college in town. Know you must be saying your Byes now - more grace to you!
