Go To Sleep My Dear

Asleep at last.

They are finally asleep -- well, almost.
They are finally asleep -- well, almost.

Go To Sleep My Dear

by Annette Gagliardi

Restless legs sail up - then down.
Arms wave round and round.
Fingers fidget,
Small body squirms.
Little mouth whispers.
         Go to sleep my dear

Mime our morning song.
Sit up for a new sound.
Look at the dog.
Fall off pretend log,
Yawn, jiggle and fuss.
         Go To Sleep My Dear

Squeeze eyes tight.
Phone rings,
Doorbell chimes.
Airplane loud overhead.
I think you should
Just stay in bed.
         Go To Sleep My Dear

Close the door.
Rub little eyes.
Yawn some more,
Drink denied.
Lullaby tried.
         Fast asleep my dear

What extremes our children go through to stay awake! But, we also stay up too late - for various reasons.

Yes. Some nights I wonder why I even go to bed.
