Goodbye Winter Hello Spring A Poem

Nature In My Blood

In the afternoon,
the wind bowed its head
and laid rest upon
the shores of Galway bay.
I stepped onto my balcony,
inhaled the sweet perfume
of the seas exhale and
my warm cup of coffee.

Noticing the commotion,
a small hungry bird,
a Coal Tit, searching
the frost covered grass
for a prized snack,
with a sweet soul voice,
soaked with an eager tone,
filled my chilled body,
like hot water to an empty cup,
with a serene awareness of natures gift.

I turn and feast my eyes
on the bare hills of Clare,
coated in the night's snowfall,
awaiting the mist sitting out in the bay.
The Corrib rages before me,
racing to the ocean like
a stampede of dominant
white thoroughbred stallions,
yet in its melancholy hymn,
I hear the music of the rivers beating heart.

A lone tree on a hill
stands strong and naked,
awaiting the penetration
of it's spring lover.
An old crow rests
softly upon its branch,
stunned by the
frosts intense brightness,
wondering if the worm
knows the time of day.
An Ewe with her precious womb,
shelters beside the tree,
staring in silence.

Like a sponge
I absorb my surroundings and
realize how much
of a wealthy man I am.
I realize what the mountains know,
what the rivers and oceans know,
the wisdom in the
freedom of natures knowledge,
the pure love trickling from
the melting snow on it's way
singing to the melody of the ocean.

The wind now
has finished taking a nap,
gathers up a bitter taste
in its breath and
howls out a stinging lament.
After entangling my
soul from the material world,
I creep back into
my humble lodgings,
stare out at the liberating view
and smile.

Great stuff Sherbet, personification of the elements, how the landscape breathes, love the wind gathering up a bitter taste (can taste the salt!) and I really liked the hot water to a cup image. Smashing pics too. Thanks, it's nice to have such an evocative read with my morning coffee :]

Truly beautiful. Reminded me of Robert Frost's 'Bereft', same haunting quality to it. You're a very talented writer....keep writing...:)
