Goodbye at Cost
Goodbye at Cost

The risk of loss a panic felt,
when words align with ends,
and I with sight no further,
my soul in pain rescinds.
For hearts held with sticky tape,
tend to bleed much more,
when love stands up to say goodbye,
my cynicism restored.
The sheer panic of being alone once more,
deprives my self esteem,
myself becomes the whipping boy,
some semblance of balance to glean.
Until I find that happy pill,
I am a torn and broken man,
dependant on a gentle touch,
a love that sees who I am.
But now I squirm in my darkness shell,
excruciating life ensues,
where realities hard and razor sharp,
cut deeply a soul to lose.
And as I teeter on that crusty edge,
my mind spinning out of control,
I cling to all that brought a smile,
all the past love that made me whole.
And so I resign to survive my pain,
and rescue hope from hell,
knowing that love is an imperfect state,
too few can make it real.
Even knowing that, I choose to forget,
let time heal those deep and ugly scars,
and perhaps one day I'll be forgetful enough,
to accept love, and know who you are.
Love is an ingredient of life if you let it, but it owes you nothing. Just be happy it is in your life.
