Grandmother's Heartbeat

When I was growing up my grandmother was an integral part of my life. You see, my mother became single and she was taking care of me and my 3 brothers. There was not always a lot of money but my grandmother made everything work. We spent many a Saturday afternoon her teaching me how to bake and in the summer we spent lots of time working in the expansive garden my grandparents owned. I cherish these times and think that everyone has a special grandmother who holds a special spot in their heart.

This poem, reflects the feelings I have about grandmothers and nature. Enjoy!

A Grandmother's Love is endless
A Grandmother's Love is endless

Grandmother’s Heartbeat

If you listen close enough,

you can hear it.

The beating of her heart.

It stretches beyond fences

and reaches across cultures.

Just as a circle represents wholeness

and unity,

so does the love of a grandmother

who brings a family together.

Love knows no boundaries.

The steady beat

connects us and unites us.

We share the earth,

We are one.

Thank you Cloverleaf,

I had been thinking about the role grandmothers play in a family and it inspired this poem. : )

I'm Granny Annie to my many grandchildren and great-grands. My two eldest great-grands are in their upper teens, so I could easily become a great-great-Granny Annie while I'm quite able to enjoy the role! They live in Indiana, though & I'm in Texas. sigh.

My second eldest granddaughter just had her second baby in Dec. My daughter's 5 daughters range in age from 13 to nearly 37. She has 7 grandchildren from her 3 eldest daughters.

My own maternal grandmother died the month before I was born and my paternal grandmother lived with us at that time, but only for a few years before she moved back up north to live with another of her sons for the few remaining years of her life. Both my grandfathers died when my parents were young, so out of all of my grands, I only knew the one. My parents were older when I was born, and growing up, though, so their influence was somewhat like grandparents.

I like your beautiful memories of your grandmother and how she poured out her love and was the unifying influence for the family, " . . . Just as a circle represents wholeness . . ." Beautiful!

Oh what a lovely poem on the heartbeat of grandmothers. I know there is nothing more joyful in this world to me than being a grandmother myself of three beautiful grandchildren. I am so blessed to have them, as they do make my heart skip a beat with all the love they show me.

Excellent poem.

Voted up +++ and sharing

God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper
