Guns Kill

Another daddy didn’t make it home

Another creep with a gun

Made daddy late

And took him to Heaven

Another life has ended

Another person killed

They had a life still to live

What did that gun toting idiot care?

Another reason to stop dancing in the street

Another reason to bring fear

To all of our family and friends

So very dear

Why must I tremble in fear?

Why can’t I live free?

Why do I have to worry

About a gun toting maniac running free?

When will the world

Come to realise

Guns are needed by the army

So that we can feel protected and free

Guns are not toys

To be used by individual

Girls and boys

They have no place on the ever day street

Gun can be for sportsmen and women

Nothing against hunting

If that is what you prefer

Just don’t hunt me

Every idiot who ends an innocent life

Should have a bullet in his pea brain

After all the people they killed

Had lives to lead

Nothing against guns

As such just as long as they’re used with care

Guns used where they belong

Are alright by me

Just don’t give them to those who use them carelessly

Don’t give them to those who don’t care

Who have no respect for the lives of others

For the lives of people who are loved

Oh, Lord please make them all see

That guns are not toys

They don’t belong on the streets

And in the hands of maniacs

Oh, Lord I sure do wish

That all the people all over the world

Could come together in peace and harmony

And leave the gun shooting to the defenders of peace

Nice sentiment. Unfortunately, the bad guys will always figure out a way of getting a hold of a gun. Only law-abiding citizens are affected by gun laws. I saw this on the streets of Chicago as a teenager. Guns were banned/restricted yet all the gang boys had easy access to guns.

What is the solution? No idea. There are good people, there are bad people and people in-between. A dictatorship might control people but a free society shouldn't, otherwise it is no longer free. Perhaps education of the cost to people's lives would help. Kind of a MADD program for guns?

Powerful message, Gypsy Rose! This is actually becoming a disease all over the world.... Streets are becoming unsafe for everyone, Sad!

Voting up and awesome!

I have to agree with Angelo - criminals will always have guns, so if the innocent citizens are defenseless against them, they are even more vulnerable and unable to defend their families. It is true that guns kill, but so do knives, so do fists, so do cars, so do airplanes. We must remember that the gun does not operate on its own, it is the user who is the killer.

I am against the killing of any innocent human being with whatever weapon of choice - but I don't believe the answer is to disarm the innocent human so they cannot defend themselves if necessary.

God bless!

I agree with LaThing and Angelo. taking guns away from the people in the United States would be a big mistake and cause a great more turmoil among the people who look to their constitution and rights under it. The guns removed around the world in various countries drove the people to defend themselves with knives, spears, clubs, bow and arrows and even rocks when there was nothing else available. This is all a scary thing to deal with in any country, yet there has to be a way to defend the family from the thugs of the world. Removing fire arms from public access would only allow the terror mongers and criminals a big chance to flex their muscles and take over. True you hear of each misuse of hand guns on the news, yet this is most often by mentally deranged individuals and often could be prevented if those around them would report earlier about their conditions or intentions. There will always be weapons devised by the terrorists and others, that work their evil upon society.

Your heart is expressed well here, dearest one. Unfortunately, guns will always get into the hands of the ones who do not need to have them, even if they were outlawed, the bad guys would get them somehow on the black market. My husband just recently bought a gun for protection if anyone breaks in or whatever, or to kill snakes. Guns do scare me, but only because I have never used one, and they represent nothing but death to me. I have never even touched a gun, as it gives me the chills. It is in our Constitution that we as a Nation can bear arms. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Very well done Gypsy! This is why I write...the power of the written word. I saw an article once....and I won't get the stats right, but the point is obvious....Detroit has like 2000 murders per year....and right across the river in the Canadian city of Windsor ......3 murders per year....a matter of one mile separating the two cultures....guns do kill!

Rasma -

In a perfect world, I would agree with you. And, I would love for that world to be around today. This is a topic I debated for years. Unfortunately, the world is not a kind place. The heathens that stand behind a gun to rob or kill are numerous, and are beginning more and more to prey upon the aged and innocent. I am one that purchased a gun for protection only recently. I also took a couple of handling classes, and a concealed weapon permit class. I've also done much target shooting to become familiar with it. No, I don't feel stronger or more bold by having one. But, I promised in my wedding vows to protect my wife. If it comes down to this being the only way I can do so, then so be it. I refuse to let some punk or weapon of evil take her from me without a fight. It is sad it has to come to this, but remember, only the law abiding citizens follow the laws set down. Those that refuse to obey the norm and rules of society and God will always find them and use them. I wish I could change it, but reality must be faced and prepared for should it ever become known.

They do kill, but unfortunately so do automobiles, especially when they are driven by someone under the influence or someone who is in a rage. I think it's people with horrible intentions that kill any way they can find to do it. Nice poem, I do totally understand the sentiment behind it! :)

Guns don't kill, people do. Outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns. Do you for an instant believe that our founding fathers were stupid when they wrote the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment enforces the 1st Amendment.

This is such a well done poem. I don't even begin to get into the debate on guns. There is so much passion about them on both sides. Personally, I'm not a fan of guns. Voted up.

Hi Gypsy... what a touching work you have created here but sadly enough it is happening all over the world. The impact a life lost over a stupid senseless killing can cause is immense. Even if the crime is solved the one lost can never be brought back.

I was recently on a main highway and following a drunk driver. I called the police and they caught him a few miles up the road. Never a doubt in my mind he was impaired. Did I save a life or maybe several. I will never know but I know his driving day came to an end that day.

Hugs from Canada

Thanks for commenting Angelo. I agree with you there is no easy solution. It just made me so mad to hear of another shooting - the one at the Empire State Building.

Thanks for commenting gottabegod. This is a very tough issue. Well I don't mean no one can own guns for defense but people must be educated on their use. You hunt no reason not to. You know how to hunt and how to use the rifle. That's fine just how does one deal with the maniacs who get a hold of a gun and shoot innocent bystanders??? God bless.

Thanks for you comment whonunuwho. How to resolve this is beyond me. Perhaps special licenses which only people can get if they answer the proper questions or something like that. Just scary to think that guns get into the wrong hands.

Thanks for your comment Faith. So true it is a very bad situation. No reason for your husband not to have a gun for protection. It's when guns get in the wrong hands when it gets real scary because then innocent people get killed or injured. Just makes me mad is all. God bless.

Thanks for commenting and the vote Frank. People need guns for protection so guns are available and then they fall into the hands of the wrong people. That makes me mad. I wrote this after I heard about the shooting at the Empire State Building.

Was looking forward to your comment Bill and you didn't disappoint. It's so hard not to be mad. People need guns to protect themselves, their families and property but in the wrong hands innocent people get killed on the streets.

Thank you for your comment rcrumple. You're right as is everyone. One must have a gun for protection but making the gun readily available it gets in the wrong hands all the time. What can one do? Just riles me up and makes me so mad.

It was meant from the point of view of who is behind the gun and whose finger is on the trigger. It was not written to offend anyone or step on anyone's toes. It just makes me angry when guns fall into the wrong hands that's all Frog Prince.

Thanks so much for your comment Rolly. So true lots of other things happen too. Glad you called in the drunk driver. Life must go on and we must accept the good with the bad. I got riled up when I heard about the Empire State Building shootings. However people will always need guns for protection just sad they always wind up in the wrong hands too. Just like knives and steering wheels with drunk drivers behind them. Hope you and Quigley are doing fine. Hugs from Riga.

A good poem with an important message of awareness. I wish the world would take Australia's example on gun ownership - We have arguably some of the most restrictive firearms legislation in the world. We banned guns in the general population under the 1996 National Agreement on Firearms. After a couple of horrendous public shootings where many innocent people were slaughtered at the hands of crazed gunmen - we as a Nation agreed democratically that enough was enough. That's what I call real social reform which comes about when citizens still care for each other. Voted up Gypsy.

Yeah. We need to hear this and internalize the true meaning behind your words. Guns have wreaked havoc in our homes and lives for centuries. It is high time world governments drew up a concensus on the issue. Guns should be in the barracks and with disciplined forces. Not in the streets. Thanks for the wonderful share. Voted up

I agree there are way too many guns and no restictions on the amount of ammo one can buy. Combat rifles are sold willy nilly to fools who have no business with them.

You said it xstatic but it is like a disease that's spreading. Not too long ago we had a guy shoot the popcorn vender in a movie theater because he didn't enjoy his popcorn. Just shot him in the head.

I'll go out on a limb here and say something else, Gypsy. Part of the reason for all these shootings and violence we're seeing with guns is not all the guns' fault. A good part of it may be drugs. People under the influence of cocaine, for instance, aren't in their right mind and they do some pretty crazy stuff. Look at the people that followed Charles Manson. They were on drugs most of the time. Drugs are a bigger problem in this country than guns are. Responsible citizens have a right to firearms because if you take away a country's right to firearms, the next step is a dictatorship. That's what Hitler did and then he promised the people solutions to their nearly 50% unemployment and their hunger problem. All lies, but they couldn't do anything about it because he kept such a tight control over everything.

In spite of all the violence and all the shooting, our founding forefathers thought it best that the average American should have the right to a firearm. That way, if the government, which, by the way, is supposed to by the people and for the people, got out of hand, we could do something about it.

Guns were never made to shoot innocent people, but as is the case a lot of times, a few always spoil it for the rest of us. Why should the rest of the sane world who use guns to hunt with or for protection against such insanity have to go without because a handful of people can't control themselves?

Gypsy Rose Lee profile image

Some good points Ann and I don't say I disagree but it is like a vicious circle. There is always the good and the bad you have to take with this situation. I myself have done target shooting back in the states but that was ages ago. And I do see your point about the narcotics that situation is definitely getting out of hand. Thanks for commenting.

Very interesting! But I do have to disagree.. Do you know how many guns saved lives? I know if i was walking in the city at night, i would really want to have a gun. If a creeper came, and was trying to kill, hurt, steal, ect i would have some sort of way to defend my self. All in all though, cool writing. Could you look at my poems, thanks

Gypsy Rose Lee profile image

Gypsy Rose Lee 4 years ago from Riga, Latvia Author

Agree and disagree. It's sort of a no win situation. I do agree guns for protection are OK it's when the idiots get a hold of them that make me mad. Just today I read of another innocent people shooting in Minnesota. Thank heavens the idiot shooter killed himself as well but he took five innocent lives. So what can I say? Will pop over to your profile and follow you.
