HEAVEN KNOWS - A Short Story (Languages)

Up, up and away we can go.

There remain some problems. Fortunately we have eternity to work them out.

Newcomers just arriving in Heaven are surprised that I know their every thought.

The explanation is what on Earth was called "mental telepathy".

Some few, while on Earth, experienced such moments of clarity, but on the whole it was referred to, but little understood.

To understand why, I would simply ask you to imagine the U. S. President Eisenhower sitting across the table from Soviet leader Krushchev at their famous meeting in Vienna, Austria and each instantly knowing what the other was thinking at that moment in the so-called "Cold War" which followed Earth's World War II.

Most arrivals here are not aware that at one time President Eisenhower had contemplated a "first strike" by the United States of America against the Soviet Union. Had he launched one, all talk about the Japanese attack against Pearl Harbor would have paled by comparison.

Suppose that at such a moment as that meeting in Vienna, Krushchev could have "known" Eisenhower had been considering such an attack. And suppose Eisenhower could have "known" that Krushchev was also considering a "first strike" against the U. S.

Earth's history would seem to have hinged on which man pushed the "Doomsday Button" first!

No, mental telepathy was reserved for use in Heaven, and even here it has had its problems and concerns.

For example: the Bible says that if a man lusts over a woman (or vise versa), it is the same as if that one of Heavenly Father's children had already committed adultery, or an only somewhat lesser sin.

Lying is also a sin, and in Heaven not the least amount of sin is tolerated here in the presence of God.

That is not to say that God did not know that His children were imperfect while they were on Earth. They were, and God grieved over how imperfect they were. But mortality was meant to allow mankind to grow up into righteous children, and to return to their Heavnly Father better for the tests and trials of life.

Here in Heaven we can forgive ourselves and others for any remaining imperfections, but in return we expect that charity and love are not to be abused, but rather to be a universal quality here.

All of God's children are capable of aspiring to and reaching toward perfection. Our mental telepathy which some call the original "Adamic Language" used in the Garden of Eden, is meant to avoid everyone having to learn everyone else's Earth language in order to communicate charity and love. At last count there were some 238 languages still in use on Earth, so you see how cumbersome it would have been to continue such divisiveness here.

At the same time, our universal language here accelerates learning, and sharing the qualities and the grandeur of Heaven.

Newcomers quickly learn how to adapt so that they avoid being betrayed by their own thoughts, just as others have learned before them.

On occasion mental telepathy has led to some very humorous consequences.

Most notable of these are the cases in which someone or group, while on Earth, apologized for something they had done there, but arrived in Heaven with the earlier matter still not fully resolved.

When a pair of such individuals or groups encounter each other here, both immediately know the truth behind such an apology. Fortunately they have eternity to resolve it. but Invariably they do so almost instantaneously.

A situation much less humorous occurs when couples who married on Earth meet each other in Heaven with the understanding that "bound on Earth is bound in Heaven" and "loosed on Earth is loosed in Heaven".

The happily married couples are delighted to rejoin each other. The unhappily married couples, if both make it to Heaven, are usually so happy to have made it, that nothing else matters and they quickly make bygones be gone.

Then also, God's creation is so vast that, even with all eternity stretching out before them, if they mutually choose to do things separately, they really have no obligation to ever do things as a couple. Serial divorcers are "a different kettle of fish"....an earthly image I find fascinating. So few of them make it here that it becomes an isolated problem.

While quite often a mutual understanding is not needed because only the wife, or only the husband, deserves to be in Heaven, eternity gives enough time to know, understand, and heal everything that was endured in mortailty.

As you are still in mortality while reading this, pondering all the complexities of communicating by mental telepathy will put you to sleep by the end of your Earth day (though counting your blessings is a much better step to take when earnestly seeking a restful sleep).

And I mention this as an example: on Earth you have heard the admonition "don't all talk at once!" Imagine the problems that were resolved here in Heaven to cope with everyone thinking all at once!

Well that is an interesting heaven. Do not care much to go there.

I accepted the Comment, but I wish you had been more descriptive of your resistance for not caring much to go there. I recall, I think, that you were not one to look forward to sitting on a cloud and playing a harp throughout eternity. If asking enough people to say what time it is can give us a right answer from the median of those responses, maybe we should ask enough people to describe what they can expect Heaven to be like?

Interesting hub! I enjoyed reading it as it talks about one of my favorite super powers(or heaven powers as you call it). I would like to have the ability to mind read or have mind conversations with friends, fellow workers, my love and all the people in this world. Sadly, it may only happen in Heaven. I do believe in the saying that "Heaven is what you make it to be." And if everyone's language in your heaven is mental telepathy, it's pretty easy to conclude that your heaven is awesome.

Anyway, enjoyed reading this hub! I'll leave a question here. What happens to people when they don't reach your heaven? Cheers! :)

Interesting hub. Did you know that in heaven they can walk through walls, too?

BlossomSB - Reference? (You are probably referring to when Christ appeared to Thomas and the other disciples and removed Thomas' doubt.) If, however, there are references to more than "places" and "mansions" in Heaven, we can start collecting them here on HubPages per my challenge to other Hubbers to add their own stories to this series. Thanks for being more than a "Follower" in name only!

A further thought: Walking through walls would have to be one aspect of any burglars Heaven! And, an endless opportunity for mansion owners' forgiveness. If on the other hand by making it to Heaven all those who do so become co-heirs with Christ, even burglars would have no reason to steal!

Fascinating. I think even if you don't know certain languages you can also express yourself through gestures.

Gypsy Rose Lee - You may recall that my wife once regularly helped a leper who had lost his legs, arms, vocal chords, and facial muscles. (See Once Upon A Throne III as I recall.) He could snap his head in order to roll somewhere, and he could nod his head or shake it for "Yes" and "No" expressing himself in the only gestures available to him. Thanks for commenting on this and the others you recently read.

There are many mansions in Heaven, so we might not all end up in the same heaven...ha ha. I liked your sentence: Our mental telepathy which some call the original "Adamic Language" used in the Garden of Eden. never though of mental telepathy that way. Interesting to read other peoples perspective.

Nadine May - Yes, one of the great advantages of our freedoms is being able to share other people's perspectives as we do here on HubPages. Some believe there are Terrestrial Heaven, Telestial Heaven, and Celestial Heaven (the latter being where God dwells with His Son).

It was nice to see HP giving this a score of 80. Somehow my writings, poems, haiku, limericks, and satire never seem to get much higher than that. I guess I need to include music videos or something?

Darksage - In answer to your question (my answer, not some dogma): the key to fogiveness of our sins is true repentance, baptism, and confirmation from one having authority to confer the gift of the Holy Ghost. Those who did not submit to that process here on earth will have that opportunity after death in what some call Spirit Prison or Purgatory. There, those spirits, can either repent and accept those gifts or reject them, a last act of their free agency. Then they become responsible for their informed choice. As no unlean thing can exist in the presence of God, those who choose to spend eternity elsewhere will do so.

A great comment or Letter to the Edtor in today's 8/6/15 NY Times by the CEO of Starbucks coomented on a humble act of Pope Francis. There are many times when we can observe actions that actually "speak" louder than words Mr. Howard Schultz "spoke" well in his printed words....what we are all attempting to do here.
