HMS Bounty Lost at Sea !

Photo from HMS Bounty Facebook page .
Photo from HMS Bounty Facebook page .

Off the outer banks of Carolina she rests
'neath the ever stormy seas
Once the pride of the northeast fleet
sailing free at ease

The storm by the name of Sandy raised the
anty in the game
The Bounty tacked on and on but
waves so rough they came

Last I saw her she was bound by the
graveyard of the sea
The outer banks win again and the
caprtain now is free

Sixteen crew came in a life raft
one more lost to death
So the captain and his sailor have
breathed thier last breath

Many Captains they are the hero's
yet so is this sailor too
Amid the wrecks of a thousand more
neath the outer banks of blue

Sail on .....sail on you ghostlike dreamers
may they forever sail
The dream the dream is more the journey
her memory will prevail

Rest easy Captain !

This one of your best ahorseback, and I am glad you were moved to write it. Hearing of this beautiful ship and two of its crew lsot to the storm has been on my mind as well.

Shared this one too.

Strangely romantic. There is something captivating about this. But if we delve why, we might find the Bounty. Thank you

IMKarn , yes , good question , I know it had a new owner and was being moved to .....florida ? I think . And yet so many lives affected ! The only negative about a storm otherwise I love a good storm Leslie . I have been on a couple or three of these beautiful ladies [ wooden ships ] , they are soo magical ! kind of like a ahhh ....you !

One day this evocative poem will become a timeless classic just like that famous song by our fellow countryman Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (if unfamiliar check it out on You Tube) and yes your fabulous words also carry music in themselves.

I know of this story which is not even a week old and I thought about 'life imitating art' in the sense of a movie scenario about a ship that was in a movie itself - sending you warm wishes and good energy lake erie time ontario canada 8:54am and yes I survived Hurricane Sandy myself thank god.

What a beautiful tribute to those beautiful people who have been lost at sea. Sandy surely took some of these as it passed through and your poetic verse will help to ease the pain.

Violetsun , thank you so ! One of the reasons I love the sea and all thats part of it , My great great grandfather was one of two brothers that jumped from a British ship into - Boston? harbor and became deserters to become Americans . One then married an Native American girl and began my line in the Family . Thank you for stopping by , that means alot !
